406 Engine Conversions
If money was no object you could do almost anything but has anyone heard of an engine conversion in a 406? I was wondering how difficult it would be to stick a GTI-6 motor in it? And I'm pretty certain I've seen turbo and/or blower conversions for that engine.

Re: 406 Engine Conversions
From what I recall it's certainly possible, but not desirable. Take a look at this post:

I'd love to see a supercharged V8 406 Coupe with four-wheel-drive. 400 HP or so would do nicely

Re: 406 Engine Conversions
You wouldn't have enough room under the bonnet for that. Maybe in the boot...
I'd settle for higher ground clearance. I seem to have real trouble with these "if money were no object" questions, probably because it is and always will be

If money was no object, I'd be looking to play around with something much nicer & more expensive than a 10-15 year old French large family car.
Probably something along the lines of this:

Re: 406 Engine Conversions
I think you could, if the V8 was mounted longitudinally instead of transversely. Also depends on the physical size of the engine block itself. I'd also put the gearbox (and probably the battery) towards the rear of the car for the sake of weight distribution.steve_earwig wrote:You wouldn't have enough room under the bonnet for that
Yeah, there would be some real chopping around required, and you'd need to create a real transmission tunnel running to the rear axle, but I reckon this could be done. Remember, this is a "money-is-no-object" pipe-dream.

And mount the radiator on the roof?
Ok, if money really were no object I'll take a Tiger tank. Leave the engine standard though, I'm sure a 650bhp V12 Maybach is more than adequate...

& you can drive them on a normal car license! Anybody that can't brake in time behind that would just carry on underneath & come out the front.sirwiggum wrote:waue, you wouldn't need to worry about NCAP with one of those.

Re: 406 Engine Conversions
2.5 DK lump out of a Fiat Boxer van (Engine is fully based on the XUD)
Fully forged bottom end.
Ported and polished head and inlet manifold.
VNT Turbo for utmost lowdown to midrange torque.
I'd use a standard XUD9 bosch pump and keep the full Semi ecu control.
Then I'd use a 6 speed 2.0 HDi gearbox out of a C5/407 with a limited slip diff.
Car would be dropped 35mm on eibachs on Bilsten B4's.
Edit...
Or maybe a 3.0 HDi V6 but mechanically injected somehow

Re: 406 Engine Conversions
Money no object has 2 choices.
A 3.0 HDi V6 possibly just lifted out of a 407 and put into the 406, its not completely impossible, its the electrical side of things that would cause the most issues.
but i have also had another idea after looking at a clio v6, get a 406 estate, rip out the rear seats and all that stuff, and do a mid engined V8 driving the rear wheels, the lexus v8 is a nice quiet engine but for this job noise is needed so a merc c65 engine or one of them new twin turbo v8's that bmw do.
