Anyone With Philips Headlight Bulbs

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Anyone With Philips Headlight Bulbs

Post by Turbo7379 »

Hi folks,

This isn't my first post but its been a while since I was here & just can't remember my which login/pass combo I used.

Anyway, I want to upgrade my headlight bulbs. The light is good but I would like to improve it. I checked tonight & I already have Philips bulbs fitted, but I don't know what ones. These are the markings on the bulb.

K516 15/K Philips H7 55w DOT 12792 E1 22z U Germany

Could anyone with philips xtreme bulbs please check & see if these markings correspond?

Cheers,

I used a pair of Halfords Extreme Brilliance HUB477 in my car but to be honest although the light is "whiter" it doesn't seem a lot better than stock bulbs when out on the road. :( I can't comment on the Phillips Extreme but i'd try and get some feedback before shelling out for them.

I used Osram NightBreaker Plus H7 bulbs for both my main beam and dipped beam headlights. They are noticeably brighter and whiter than the standard bulbs were (not sure how old the bulbs that came in the car were though). You can get them for about £14 a pair on eBay.

As for your Philips bulbs, I couldn't tell you whether your bulbs are Philips XTreme bulbs or not.

The new 'improved life' Osram Nightbreakers are very good.

Thanks for the replies.

The philips xtreme are highly rated everywhere but they should be good at that price! I used the H4 version of them in my old car & they were a big improvement over the osram silver stars I had.

The current bulbs have been in the 406 3.5 years/40k miles so they are probably not the xtreme ones. I'll have to look into these Osram Nitebreakers as they are half the price of the philips. I guess I could buy a pair & see what they're like before buying any more.
