Just had a new cam belt fitted, couldn't do it myself back playing up at moment, £91 for belt, tensioners, water pump and aux belt and £150 to fit it, 2.8 hours, pleased with that but £49 VAT , rip off.
Anyway, car feels smoother than before, is quieter and pick up out of corners is better. I assume that the old belt had stretched a little causing timing to be slightly out.
Mileage is 57K but car is 12 years old and although has a lot of service history I can't find any evidence of cambelt being changed so had the lot done as insurance.
New cam belt, smoother car.

New cam belt, smoother car.
1999 406 HDi 2.0 110 GTX Estate. 48k when bought, now 150K. Second owner, I've covered over 100k in it.
Clutch changed @110k, bottom pulley changed, cam belt changed, EGR blanked, cat removed, front springs changed.

Definitely the best approach. You got a good deal on yours, mine was about £400-ish all-inclusive, but even the £400 I paid would be cheaper than what would happen if my belt snapped.D9406 wrote:Mileage is 57K but car is 12 years old and although has a lot of service history I can't find any evidence of cambelt being changed so had the lot done as insurance.
