So tempted...

Post by Bailes1992 »

Been out and about in my Uncles C5 today.

What a lovely car!
For those who don't know, he has a Silver 58 plate C5 with 28k on it. He got it for £5,000. It's the 2.0 HDi so has abit of power and it's in VTR+ form, so a couple of toys and some nice alloys.

Just looking on auto trader and you can get 150k Models for ~£5,000.

Thinking a nice 2.0 HDi Exclusive. First sign of FAP problems, get it removed and remap.

It's the same price to insure as my current HDi90 406. Infact my insurance company will give me 7p back

Lloyds offered me £5k over four years at £120 a month.
As I'm already putting £300 a month away, I really really am tempted!

What you guys think?

Why borrow coin on a car which is going to be worth a pittance after 5 years anyways?

Keep the 406. There is nothing un-cooler than a original shape Citroen C5.

I see what you mean:

I also see this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130629516548? ... 1423.l2649

However: neither of us has £5k, neither of us needs a new car, both of us have a lovely 406.
Saving at that (impressive) rate you'll be able to buy one for cash in 18 months anyway -- and in those 18 months they won't have gone up in value.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Thats silver one is bang on identicle to my Uncles!

I do love my 406... but I want to sort the bodywork out. I'm looking £1,500 to tidy it up. Thats 1.5x what it's worth!

Oh and bare in mind I'm thinking towards the end of the year. My pay goes up by £85 a week which will be nice :)

Problem with the £5k C5 is that you're looking at getting a loan for the car, but you may still find that it needs more spending on it in maintenance after that & you'd kick yourself if you ended up paying out for something which was spot on already with your current car.

This is one of the things that makes me hesitate a bit with getting rid of mine, but at the moment, this could be my last chance to get a new car for a long, long time. I'm just dreading getting something that will need the same jobs doing as I've already done on the 406.

totally agree! There is bugger all wrong with my current car. Going in this Wednesday for new track rods, full wheel alignment and have another look at my AUX belt as it's still not right.

My girlfriend bought a 5 year old 1.25 Fiesta with 50k on it, just ate clutches and they couldnt get the bottom of it, so they had to get rid.

I love the new C5. My biggest worry with Citroens is the build quality, after having seen what went wrong with my mum's 2004 60k C4 HDI VTR+. A very nice car with all the toys you'd ever need, but everything is just falling off it, including the gear stick

I noticed he had a Damper out up in Gaydon if you remember?

But he was just getting bored of it. The new car 'Fad' had worn off.

Wish he would bloody reappear, miss the old bastard
