Whos 406 says...

Post by Bailes1992 »

"Automatic Wiping Active"

When I mentioned it this time everyone looked at me like I was insane, I seemed to have the only 406 in the world that does it.

Who elses 406 does this?

So let me get this right: suppose it's dry and you put the wiper stalk into the first (auto) position, then nothing happens.
If it now starts to rain, then the windscreen wipers work and the MFD announces this to you.

This is how mine works, except that I don't get the announcement.

I have auto lights disabled because I think they're really stupid.

I read today auto lights can be dangerous in that in the fog, the car can fail to recognise this, and peeps just "assume" they come in, and they don't
Hence driving round in pea soup with no lights on

Got to say pet hate for silver cars not to have lights on in the rain or fog as they seem to "disappear" visibility wise in your mirrors

Mine's different: if I put it on auto the wipers will work once, then stop, then start if it starts raining, with no beeps or alerts whatsoever. After shutdown they require re-activation to get them working.

This is how mine work too. Putting the wiper stalk up to the first position causes the "Auto wiping system enabled" message on the MFD and the wipers being triggered once. They then only move if the rain sensor detects water; how fast they move depends on the amount of water the sensor detects and the length of time it detects water being there.

The system does not re-enable itself if the wiper stalk is still set in the same position when you start the car next time - you have to disable it (either by moving the stalk to the "Off" position, or by putting it on to the "Constant - Slow" position) and then re-enable it (by moving it back to the "Auto" position).

I believe the "Auto wiping system enabled" message always comes up on COM2000-equipped cars with the Sat-Nav enabled "Type C" multi-function display.

I, too, disable the Auto Lights system. However, if the car has been to the garage and they have performed a BSI reset, then I find the Auto Lights system is automatically enabled, and I have to disable it again.

Oh yes, I forgot about that: always one initial wipe.

I am a counter-example to this. I am COM2000 with navigation but the auto-wipers do not announce when they start wiping.

FWIW, on fully mux cars, you can semi-permanently disable either or both functions in the BSI with PP2000
