2.2 HDI Top Speed (standard)

Post by rlees85 »

.... no not a thread asking what everyones record is ;)

i started a thread recently about low on power and a load of other issues, which i think most of which are down to the vac sys.

i noticed on a private road, it wont pull past 110 mph, which i thought is very odd for a car thats meant to have 136bhp.. plus a turbo lag that persists even when most the vac system is plugged with bolts (so the only system connected is the turbo EV and master cylinder).

... im thinking knitted sock or the garage i had remove the dpf didnt remove it

any other things it could be? or is this actually normal speed for this car?! just wanted to at least check this point before diagnosing a problem that doesnt exist!

please dont post "you dont need to go more than xx mph"... it was a private road and im not asking for advice on what speed to drive at... cheers! :)

what RPM was the car doing at 110mph ?
that may be the top speed. it all depends on the gear ratios .

The road test figure was 125 for an estate, not sure, maybe 127 for a coupe.

Parkers state 126mph for the saloon, 129mph coupe, and 125mph for the estate.

was only going about 3.5k... its got the long gearbox i think... 125 would seem more like it. such an odd one... theres no smoke or anything like that and everything in pp2000 seems alright! guess ill change the sock first and check the exhaust myself to make sure it has been done :/

dont forget over the years when cars build up the milage and get worn they loose BHP . so i bet if you had your car rolling road tested it wouldnt be what it was when brand new ..

you may have lost say 10-20BHP since the car was brand new and this will of course affect the top speeds and performance

  125

i have to ask this . but why would you drive so fast ? i wouldnt ever go near that speed. 80mph is my limit on motorway.
if you was to have a blow out at 120mph your totally f*cked
but at 70mph you can keep controll of the car and stop safely

That towing at speed is scarey,

my mate was towing acaravan at 85mph with a Granada scorp, ultima, cossy lump,
had to tell him to ease off abit, couid see the caravan sway about the motorway, he didnt bat an eye lid,

im not a fan of towing, even when ido its no more than 50 tops,

talking of speed, ive had a robin reliant fly past me at over 100mph, Now thats crazy

He wernt towing doing 140 mind  even though it would have probably done it, i remember coming home from Devon he overtook me on a hill Bailes and dai rees might know called the black rock coming up from Abergavenny i was doing about 45mph and he was nudging 85 i'd say and its a bastard of an hill.

Sadly the engine of the scooby went tits up so he bought a 2.5 shogun and i got no problem overtaking him now.... cheeky bastard told me off last time we went away he recons he was doing 75 to keep up with me..... These 406's are so comfy you dont realise the speed even when towing. :supafrisk:
