A single drop of Oil on the floor....

:cry: :cry: My trusty, thrusty puggy has sprung a leak, albeit a 'likkle' one.

Have been doing a lot more miles over last few weeks and noticed, for the first time ever, a single drip of oil on the floor with another hanging off the undertray in waiting.

The following day another drip was there, but yesterday and today there was nothing (less car use).

Here's how it looks, the oil seems to be weeping from the gearbox end of the engine and finding a low point near the black plastic intercooler feed

It looks a bit wet to the left hand side of the sump from the pictures. Could you be looking at a sump gasket on its way out ? My HDi 90 is about to have its gasket changed as it is also leaking from a similar area and thats where we found it to be coming from.
The car is gutless and slow, but is perfect for my 160 mile a day round trip commute! So much more refined than the trains.

The 'gasket' looks to me to be a bead of oil silicone gasket, like a masic seal. A lot of engines have this rather that an actual gasket.

Real pain to clean up ready for the new sealant (expensive sealant too).

I was wondering if the oil leak is from the crank seal and is running down, might also explain my clutch problem too, slipping/juddering.

I was wondering about the crank seal.

I am beginning to think that when we go to dismantle the clutch/flywheel we shall find all manner of horrors in front of us.

The extra mileage I've been doing has increased the leak which continued to drip out for a few days after (now stopped).

Any ideas how much/how difficult a crank seal is? never had to do one before :|
