MPG on mfd way out.

I actually got round to filling the car right up on Sunday after selling a kidney and did a 100 mile motorway run at roughly 70 mph with 30 odd miles mixed driving,well the mfd would'nt go much above average 43 mpg so thought i would fill up again and check.134 miles to 12.14 ltrs.which even with my bad maths works out at 49.68 mpg

So hows the other kidney? can it withstand another fillup? I put £70 in mine this time last week and think we've done 230 miles (more than normal for us to be honest but needs must)... So i'm going to top up tomorrow and work out what my mpg return is i'll keep ya posted lol.

Mine worked out 243 miles £36 to top up ok i went over by 2p 24.89 liters mpg was 44.38

Out of those 243 miles only 100 was a decent run the rest was cold start school runs and trips to the supermarket so 5 mile drives at a time really up and down gears in the valleys, i dont think thats to bad?

Compare the calculated averages there to the trip computer readings (hover the mouse over the "BC" icons to see that).
Or if you don't want to deal with silly l/100km: The last four tanks have been about 7 MPG off.

Ouch it's not cheap driving in the valleys doing small trips, topped up again today i had used nearly 16 litres my mpg return was 36.39

My computer has been saying 36 to 37mpg all week too.

I comfortably get 36 mpg from my 1.9td on stop start driving, 50+ at a steady 60 with a warm engine. Only thing is mine is running 70/30 veg/derv most of the time which pushes up the miles/£ considerably.
The saving I make on veg easily covers my ridiculous road tax so I won't be going down the HDI route unless I can find a minter for silly cheap money.
I do just over 100 miles a week on average but mostly under 40 mph for 5-10 minutes at a time, the HDI comes into it's own on 60 mph commutes which I just don't do. Plus the fact my spanner skills are more suited to the 1.9td engine and it's usually cheaper to fix!!!

40 mph for 5-10 minutes at a time is pretty much what my car is doing, the engine dont even warm up by the time it's parked up again for a few hours or the next day, my big test for this car is in June when we have to take our youngest to north Wales to compete in the eisteddford finals it's a 320 mile round trip with just camping gear in the car "no caravan this time"

I can live with 37mpg around here even if were not really seeing the benifit of what the engine is capable of.

You want ridiculous? I'm paying €660 (about £545) a year for road tax
It would only be €330 if I could put it on our new CO2-based system but there is no facility to change pre-2008 cars to the new rates
At least diesel is a bit cheaper over here...

I'm doing mostly city driving too, and lots of crazy hills here in Cork - it's funny seeing the trip computer go down to about 8 MPG going up some of them. But I do make longer trips regularly enough (120 mile round trip at least once a month).
