Not done one on a 406 but they are usually a huge job involving removing the whole dashboard, dropping the steering column down etc.
Make sure you have exhausted all repair possibilities before embarking on such a job.
Fit some sealer into the heater inlet pipe first before you do anything else, something like Bars leak stopper in a solid form which you crumble to granuals and mix with a little water before dropping it into the inlet pipe.

read on here its possible by removing the glove box stuff, gonna give this a true, wouldnt sealent ruin the radiators when i do finally change the matrix?

Ruin which radiators?
The matrix is a radiator but you would be changing that anyway if it fails.
I mentioned fitting the sealant into the heater inlet pipe therefore directing it directly into the heater matrix (radiator).

Apparently the trade book time for replacing the matrix is only just over an hour so it must be an easy job.
Better off having a go at replacing it.

theres 2 on eurocarparts, a valeo one and a cheaper one, seem to read alot online that people order the valeo one and its the wrong one. i ordered the cheaper non valeo one
