Heater fan going mental

I hope this is not answered on anotherpost but ive got problems with heater fan the other day fan stopped working, i tapped the motor and it started (bit like the old 405's) but today the fan is running constantly fast even when I lower the setting to off It will go faster on the controll but not slower or stop.
I got a bit worried and saw the melting connector that and very hot wires that I saw on another post so I disconected the connector to stop the fan. Heater is still working but not sure about the aircon
(car is 1999 D8 2.0 hdi exec estate)

Thanks for that link Plod, sounds like the same problem did your connector overheat as well? sounds as if it did.

Yes, my connector shorted out, and I bought a 50amp anderson connector off the bay to fix that problem
