406 HDI instrument panel lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 HDI instrument panel lights

Post by rockall »

406 HDI 90 Rapier estate

Hi, new here, hope someone can help - I've lost illumination of the speedo, fuel and temperature gauges These were always dimmer than the left hand dials (tacho and oil temp) but now they've gone altogether. I've taken the instrument panel out to be faced with a cornucopia of little grey bulb holders. Trouble is, they all seem to relate to warning lights and not the gauges!

Can anyone tell me what illuminates the gauges? Is it some of these little grey bulbs or is it some hidden bulbs I can't get at?

Thx.

Those bulbs do both - can't remember off top of head but they are either 501's or 286T's

right, thanks for that...the speedo and tacho are probably some of the ones recessed into the instrument panel's back cover...difficult to get out without tweezers!

Seems strange that I've lost speedo, temp gauge and fuel gauge ones all at the same time, though?.... they wouldn't be on a different fuse, would they?

iagree with rayneR

check fuses,

1 or 2 bulbs failing sounds realistic but not that many,

ialways thought the back light bulbs on the d9 clocks where Smds solderd in ones ?

I never saw mine, but i suspect that they are normal T5 W5W bulbs, like the plates light.
