2.0 hdi 110 high pressure fuel pump leaking.

Post by GazBlack »

Hi guys hope someone can help me.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed diesel under the car.
After having a look I noticed diesel leaking out under the pump but by the time I got to the garage (15 mins) it had stopped.
I've been keeping an eye on it and it only seems to leak on start up and stops after it heats up.
Anyone else had this? Or know anything Bout them?

Thanks

Cheers Steve I will have a look and see if that's where the leak is coming from.

Well is that not just typical I go out and clean the pump up as best I can so I can see where the leak is coming from.
Turn it over and nothing not even a small drip lol
So I'm still none the wiser to where its coming from :|

Well I've had another look and the fuel dosent appear to be coming from the regulator. I've cleaned it as best I can but with fat fingers its not easy!
Is there anything on the back of the pump that could be leaking? Does anyone know what's on the back of them?

Are you sure its coming from the pump?

diesel spreads as its thin, so it couid be spraying from anywhere in that area, have you checked the fuel filter housing, ? is the drain screw tight?

what iwouid do if iwas you is get the car as high as icouid off the ground,
get undertray off if it has one,

and start the car up, whilst its off the ground, you will have better chance of seeing what going on that way,

ithink if the pump was spewing diesel out you wouid notice some kind of running problems, imight be wrong tho!

Hi Lozz.
I did think it was the housing at 1st as it was covered in diesel and there was some sitting on the lid.
But I cleaned it all up and stood and watch it with engine running then I spotted diesel dripping from under the pump!

It is a strange 1 tho as it only seems to leak when its cold :?
So I've googled it and apparently its a common problem on these pumps.
And 9 of 10 times its been the regulator that's leaking so I'm going to change the seals on that and see what happens.
And if that fails to work I will get it off and change the rest of the seals.

Thanks.

Thanks pgascoyne al have a look at that 1 aswell but when I had a look the other day the filter housing was soaked in diesel and also diesel sitting on the lid! So I'm baffled and it only seems to happen on veryy cold mornings!
