406 dog guard question

My border collie thinks he's houdini, i harness him in the boot and somehow always seems to back out of it.. Yesterday the wife stopped at the cashpoint and when she got back he was sat on the back seat, if i command him to sit and stay i can be gone for a while and he's still in the boot waiting for me but a few weeks back i was doing 70mph and all of a sudden he's laying on the parcel shelf so for his and our safety it's time to get a dog guard.

Question is does the parcel shelf have to be removed? if so i'm not sure i like the idea of leaving it behind when we go on holidays or even shopping for that matter.

is it the roll back parcel shelf that goes halfway then is solid?

Would of thought you could leave it in, although my collie still try's to get through any gap possible!

Yeah mate thats the one, these dogs are escape artists the ones i've seen so far on ebay look like they wedge between the roof lining and the boot floor, unless they rest on the shelf but not taken measurements so not sure.

I picked up one on ebay that was designed for a 406 estate - but i think it needs modifying for a better fit....

But yes... Collies do like being up close and personal.....

Ive got to make my russell a proper terrier box as she knows how to unzip the material travel carrier we,ve got .much to my Grandkids delight , she somehow manages to get from the underside of the boot cover on to the top then bounces all over the kids lol.We do have a cage but takes too much room in the rear.

Well.....

I use a cheapo Argos special that's supposed to wedge between the boot floor and the headling, but actually hold it in place by tyrapping it to the headrest supports. You can still fold the seats down if need be, just temporarily remove the headrests. Means you can put them back too without needing new tyraps. Use a couple more tyraps to stop the blighters 'adjusting' them inwards and squeezing round the sides.

Cost about £25, 7/8 years ago.
