Specific Towbar wiring kit for a '53 plate D9 2.0 HDi 110?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Specific Towbar wiring kit for a '53 plate D9 2.0 HDi 110?

Post by impster »

Hi, does anyone know if there's a specific 'plug and play' towbar wiring kit for a 53' plate (D9) Hdi 110 Saloon? Does anyone know the part number for this?

Failing that - would a universal kit be ok? If so, do I need relays etc or can I just splice in?

I'll be adding twin electrics - so a 12N and a 12S socket.

Many thanks.

I would'nt go down the specific wiring kit route as it'll cost a fortune, the 12n plug just needs feeds from the various lights so just splice in(no extra relay req'd) and the 12s plug needs a smartcom relay to power the fridge and charge the aux battery as i assume you will be towing a caravan?

find one in a breakers yard, whats got or had a tow bar on,
just cut out the tow bar wiring out, Makes it alot easier than starting from scratch,

So, just to confirm, you reckon that I don't need any relays for the 12N side of things? Bear in mind my car's a '53 plate facelift model (D9).

If you can confirm that, then it's a piece of proverbial to splice in.

For the 12S i'll need a split charge relay as you suggest.

Thanks

Great. Thanks for that Grasmere59. Just what I needed to know. 8)

Will get a towbar ordered tomorrow and a split charge relay, along with the 2 sockets.

Many thanks indeed.
