Mum's boss bought a 2.2TD 9-3 when it was 5 years old & apparently it's a shed. They're loosely based on Cavaliers & Vectras depending on what year you're looking at. The late 90s one I had a go in years ago had the same mirror switches as my Cav GSi which was 8 years older.

Now, if we're talking old school 900, that's a different story...
2000/X Peugeot 406 110 HDi LX Family 93k to 2000/W BMW 530D SE Auto 84k to 2003/03 Peugeot Partner Hdi Escapade 98k to 2003/53 Vauxhall Zafira DTi Elegance 74k

The old 900s were utter tanks. Sadly they've all rusted to bits now :(
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

a friend had a diesel 93 a while back and it gave nothing but trouble mechanically no suprise its a vauxhall diesel engine.
but another friend has a late 90s 93 convertable its a 2.0 petrol and has never gave any trouble.
im suprised the old ones would rust i thought coming from sweeden they would have very good rust protection.

I don't think they'd worry, they don't rush out with the salt every time it gets a bit chilly and the natives know how to drive on the white stuff anyway.

Had a look at 3.0d 95's before the 406, but too many horror stories. Couple of guys I know have 07 & 08 1.9 diesels which seem pretty good and fairly sprightly in 150 bhp form.

Some vaux diesels have improved a lot since they followed Ford's lead, (gave up & bought in some proper engines).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

fiat have made their own diesels, they are the ones that end up in saabs, they have used peugeot diesels for their version of peugeot stuff e.g. the small vans and people carrier.
although reading this gets a bit confusing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JTD_engine

Fiat seems to work with everyone, sharing engines and vans with PSA, sharing the 500 with ford as the ka, giving vauxhall or GM diesel engines, now its Giving Chrysler/Jeep a lot of things as it owns a good chunk of them, they even have shared the suzuki sx4 as the sedici.
Parts sharing gets confusing :|
