+/- button on 110 dash

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

+/- button on 110 dash

Post by ArLee »

hey everyone...

Just bought a 110 GTX few days ago and I have no clue what some of the buttons do.
There is +/- button on the left side of the dash (instrument panel). Anyone knows whats it for?
And there is one kinda big square button with an arrow on it pointing towards left, at the right side of the dash. What does that do?
And what is the female socket like thing next to that square button?

Will really appreciate the help. Thanks.
110 GTX. I only bought it cause GTX sounds cool. Should've bought a clean LS. :/

The +/- button is for the brightness of the dash illumination, the female socket i suspect is the diagnostic port but don't know what the switch with the arrow does.

+/- on instrument panel is to put the light on instrument panel + a/c + radio panels brighter or darker .

The button with the arrow with a car in the middle is to turn on cruise control.

Like steve said, if you see the socket just right out of the blue, you are missing the rectangular cover that covers that socket ...

What colour is it? I may have one in the shed, but not 100% sure as it's in a large box of bits & bobs.

Nice! And yeah, you are right. I think im just suffering from a buyer's remorse. But the fact that my friends take and value MY advice when buying their cars, is only making it worse.

Its the greyish cloth material like most of 406s have.

Some more silly questions....

1) How the hell can i adjust the steering rack and position.
I cant find any lever or button to move it.

2) Auto trader says my car has sat nav.
What sat nav?? There isnt anything that looks even remotely as a sat nav does.

3) How to take multifucntion digital display out?? I think bulbs/leds are gone and need replacement.

4) Are there any cheap aftermarket replacement key fobs available for 406 or Ill have to spend £25 on original one from ebay?

PS: I dont think cruise control works on my car. I pressed the button on motorway and car slowed down. :P

I can help with a few hopefully! lol

1) Small black handle just to the left of the lower steering column cover shroud, release it by pulling towards you to adjust rake and reach on the steering wheel.

2) Sat nav is combined in the multi function display if you have it. It is controlled by a button on the end of the lights/indicator stalk. Also I believe there should be a remote control somewhere for it aswell. Someone else can confirm?

3) Small cover blanking plates either side of the multi function display, gently prise them out, to get to 4 torx screws that hold the display in. Mine had 3 replaceable bulbs in the back of the display once removed.

4) Don't know on this one!

5) Press the button to switch cruise on, then there is another stalk under the light/indicator stalk. Push it up or down to set the speed you are at. Then after set and working, push up to increase speed, down to decrease speed, and towards you to turn off. Pressing brake or clutch pedal will also turn it off.

If there's no key fob (plip) with the car I think it's going to be a wee bit more complicated as you need the transmitter and then your car will need programming to accept it. I think you can do this if you get the right fob from ebay but you'll also need to get a key blade cut.

You should also get the transponder chip to go in it but that's not completely necessary...

Thanks a lot rusty.
Really appreciate the help.

@steve
Ive heard programming is easy.
And one can just put the existing blade in the replacement fob.
