F30 BMW 320d Sport

Post by Bailes1992 »

Went out on Friday to order my Dad's new car.

Hows this for spec?

2.0 4 cylinder diesel.
185bhp
0-60 in 7.5s. 145mph.......

74MPG!!!

:|

Just goes to show how well manafacturers have come along in the last 10 years compared to our HDi's!

Safe to say we ordered a 320d Sport with an 8 speed automatic gearbox in Black with Red leather
Can't wait to get my hands on it

jeez thats a lot of power from just a 2.0  is it a bi turbo by any chance, but the 74mpg bit thats near the figure Peugeot gives on the hybrid diesels its now selling.

Take that with a big pinch of salt. According to the manufacturer quoted figures, a Renault Grand Scenic with a 1.5DCi 110 engine does 48mpg round town - I averaged 45 on the steady run to Wellingborough.

The Hyundai i30 I had the 4th week was the same. The quoted figures come from tests that are carried out in sealed rooms on rolling roads with a computer controlling it for each simulation. No headwinds or gradients to contend with.

Even if it does 60mpg it will be pretty damm good considering how fast it is!

It will spend most of it's life in the outside lane of the M4.

Only 60 mpg? :P
This is the thing: you get more power than you did 10 years ago -- more than twice as much -- but it doesn't get you any further.

Put it this way...

My Dad's Volvo V50 T5...

0-60 in 7.2s and 149mph.

Motorway driving we get about 32mpg.

The BMW is just as fast and is supposed to do more than double the fuel economy!

what are they doing to get so much power from such a small engine, surely there is more than one turbo, or its a very very big one.
I actually think the new 3 series is a great looking car.

Two VNT Turbos and Variable timing. I don't think it has start/stop?

The 8 speed Auto does the same 0-60 time and the same top speed as the 6 speed manual.

I dunno if its old age creeping in a bit but a genuinely have stopped caring about 0-60 times and top speeds these days. My dad got his 407 coupe (2.7 v6 HDi 205bhp) a few months ago and as i now have the drive any car extension on my insurance policy I've had it out a few times. But after the initial run out when I was trying it out I found I wasn't and didn't need to use half the power or speed its got. Dunno what its quoted figures are but me and dad generally trundle around in it about 50/60mph and it doesn't do many motorway runs, its averaging 33mpg

It's a quality engine bay right enough :D

My straight 6 sounds pretty bloody meaty when pushed. Doesn't hang around either...

They 'turn it up' at the factory, then turn a huge egg timer, and send it out in the big wide world..........

Joking aside, you are right Bailes, it seams Diesel is the way to go at the moment for the best in performance and economy.......well until the new Euro 6 Emissions kick in anyway :P :P

I think once my insurance is abit sensible I will get my future coupe de-EGR'd, deFAPed and remapped. Should see 190bhp from the 2.0 HDi.

I was thinking the same thing :cheesy:

Is it a german car mindset? To constantly have on your mind "my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane my outside lane..."?

Did it have that optional lights pack?

You know the one, it gives you little flashing orange lights at the corners of the car, so people on roundabouts know which exit you're taking
