Dismantling clocks

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Dismantling clocks

Post by mjb »

I have a set of D9 clocks in front of me - from a car that has an MOT tomorrow

The problem with them is the speaker on the back has a dodgy solder joint on one leg - and silent indicators are an MOT failure. I've got the casing open, and can see the speaker legs, but I can't get the soldering iron to them because the white plastic front is in the way.

Now - typically - this is a different design to the other dismantled clusters that have had pics posted here. Any suggestions for getting the dials off? They don't appear to want to come off!!

Never mind. Screwdriver between the stem of the needle and the servo's plastic... and twist :)

using spoons to get the needles off is the safer option,
but aspose it dont matter if youve got spare ones,

I didn't know that one. Has that always been the case or is it one of the new 2012 regs?

No they're not.

You either have to have a light or sound.
Aslong as you have one or the other you will be fine.

You're right... ish... "presence and operation" is a bit ambiguous and could (e.g. if a tester's having a bad day) mean "if it's there, it must work" and cause a failure based on the tester knowing 406s should click

In other news it (the hdi90 estate) passed. First time I've had a 406 pass its MOT without a failure! Why can't my bloody coupé do that?!?!?!

Advisories on the nsr seatbelt (got a child seat there), slightly blowing eggsauce, and worn rear discs (aye... was hoping they'd not fail it on that).

I always thought the speaker for the indicators for a D9 was part of the com2000 unit.

D8s have the indicator relay located near the rhs air vent. Don't know where the 'lights on' beep comes from
Early D9s (pre-com2000) use a large speaker in the back of the instrument cluster
COM2000 D9s use the COM2000

I feel your pain. Mine needs new discs all-round, and a new set of rear pads.
