Well it was a Ford Mustang they used, and Ford owned Volvo at the time, so it would've been possible that it would've been shortlisted

Funnily enough that era of Volvo are THE best in terms of reliability and build. The styling is a bit crap but they are bloody good motors

Mind that was before aerodynamic aids, then Alfa turned up with a stock 155 covered in spoilers "as standard"

But now they have hatchback focuseses and Civics that have a near-vertical rear, why can't they race estates again?

I guess the manufacturers have decided that as hatches are more popular there's less point showcasing saloons and estates, its a pity though, produced some epic racing. And touring cars are still an excellent watch, its a pity itv don't advertise them more as there's so much more action compared to F1.
