Because it's just a Mondeo TDCi in a posh suit with a higher price.

The jag x type is worthless up here no one wants them, seen them go for as little as 800 quid, a Rover 75 seems to be worth more, :?

I think the X-Type Jag looks to be a bit of an old-man's car, image-wise. Nice, but kinda stuffy-looking.

The XF, which basically replaced it, is a much fresher-looking car, the sort of thing I wouldn't feel uncomfortable driving. A tad on the pricey side, but you can pick up used examples (circa 2009) of the 3l V6 TDi model (240 HP stock) in Premium Luxury trim for comfortably under £20k, which isn't a bad price for that much car. I'd sooner spend £20k on a 3-year-old Jaguar XF than spend £20k on a brand new Passat.

I always thought the XF replaced the S Type, but I've just found out that you can't get the X Type any more either. Obviously speaks volumes for what the rest of the car buying public thought of them both...

Alfa Romeos?

Never liked those much. Everyone seems to go on about the styling, but I just don't like it. Out of those three, I think the 159 is the best-looking, but the Coupe styling of the Brera (which is based on the 159) seems to work better.

As for their current line-up - the MiTO is just plain UGLY. Like a horrible little insect, all bug-eyed. The Giulietta isn't much better.

I've heard Alfas having reliability issues, but then I hear that about Peugeots too.

Yes, they are lovely cars. The handling is just unmatchable for anything in that category. You have to pay a price in comfort tho. Also inside they are really beautiful but rear passengers are not very happy.
I do not like the MiTo wither. The Giulietta's better but still not on-par with past Alfa history.

They seem to be unreliable for the first years of production, so if you get a late years 156 or 159 they should do well. The engines are very good and powerful, maybe better diesels than the HDis, but the HDis offer better economy imho. The problems are almost only electrical, like always in Alfas, so make sure everything works 100% before buying and ou shall be fine.

I love the 159, 166 and 156, but I do not like the Brera and the GT at all.

Oh look, it's not about foRds any more :cheesy:

I was thinking about a 156 ESTATE before I bought the D9 so I found some buyer's guides. My god  It wasn't stuff about MAF sensors and lower wish bones as service items, nor door seals going and water filling the foot wells either, it was stuff about the bodywork rotting out around the windows and the bonnet catches failing at speed... Yes, some guides would have you believe 406s couldn't manage driving 100 meters withouth blowing up but none of it is particularly expensive, all just niggles really. Ok, not all 156s will self-destruct but the chances of buying an expensive disaster makes it too much of a gamble.

I really like the look of the 159 ESTATE, I hope they're less problematic. Hold on, did they stop making them already?

That's a point, I've not seen many on the roads lately, and none of the new models yet. Excuse me a mo.... bleurgh :( Obviously designed by the same myopic idiot who's been designing the Lancias

eheh
Yeah I've heard lots of horror stories really, but from what I know they refer mostly to early production models, the first 1 or two years. It's a Fiat thing, they like to put out cars which are not really ready for the market and have lots of flaws. Never buy a Fiat Group car in the first years of production, me says.
