I reckon "self-supporting body" means monocoque - like what most cars are but the larger 4x4s still have a separate chassis, which is tougher but heavier (swings & roundabouts)
This is all very well talking about how complicated modern diesels are but wait for the new Euro 5/6 emissions regs! these new regs pretty much see the end of the Diesel engine for passenger cars.
So what do we have to look forward to I hear you ask?..................well, it'll be small-capacity (sub 1000cc), 3-cylinder, turbo'd, super stressed out and emission-strangled PETROLS
Good luck with that

Nah, what they'll do is mount another compressor on the engine which will take the exhaust gasses, stick them through a cooler and compress them into a tank. Then every time you fill up you'll have to empty the exhaust tank into a special tank at the gas station. When these tanks are full they'll be shipped to ESA, strapped to rockets and blasted into space.
Seems that engines got too good in the 90s, the manufacturers had to ruin them with overcomplicated nonsense to give their dealers something to service!
The old mans Nissan Navara 2.2 DCi blew a conrod, said to be a known fault with these Renault/Nissan engines

Hey, you could be on to something there mate. Why on earth didn't they elect you as Minister for the Environment?

Well, I've got one.
At the moment, but if we're completely honest about it, you did have to remove all the crap that goes wrong to get to this stage.

I'll let you know how the outlaws get on
They are just about to take delivery of a Ecoboost Fucus

1999 D8.5 HDi GLX - Sold
2007 Mondingo Zetec - I seek forgiveness Bring back my 406
I was thinking about that tiny ecoboost engine, how can it be reliable? Surely with that much boost and such a small engine it won't last? The torque figure was impressive though, about 150lbs with the 125bhp spec model.
