been getting a light metal sound coming from the left side of my car when i steer right slightly (when moving) as if somethings catching on the caliper or something but took the wheel off and had a look around and couldnt find anything, all though when i put the wheels in full lock and turned the hub a jubilee clip from the rubber boots is catching on the bit sticking out with a screw in it when the drive shafts turn, or is this just cos the car is jacked up?
I doubt highly that it will be mate.
Though the driveshafts do move around by extending and contracting, they don't move around enough for them to catch on something like that.
If you're unsure, try grinding it down a little.
Knocking 2mm off will definitely make sure there is no contact.
so it was only touching cos the car was jacked up?
also the car is still making a noise, did it again earlier, a sqeak noise, cant work out what it could be, doesnt always do it
Undo the bottom bolt on the caliper and swing it up out the way, tie it up so it doesn't keep dropping down.
Check that both slider pins are free and see if the pads are free in the caliper bracket....most squeaks that you describe are related to sticking pads or slider pins or both....the noise being there or stopping as you turn the steering is usually a clue....of course it could be something else, but you should check the pads/slider pins first.
