Afternoon!

Post by dgt »

Howdy all!

Greetings from Ireland, some posters may recognise me from other motoring forums!

Recently, due to rising fuel costs, I went diesel. Have been looking out for a diesel car for ages. Mostly 406's and Mondeos...

Alas, I chose the 406 as they are much simpler mechanically and I really prefer the look of them!

After looking at a few 406's I found one not too far way from me, tested for a few months and needed tlc so I bought it about 2 days later :)

Since then I
  • Serviced it
Gave it a damned good clean
Replaced the aerial and tail light
    Replaced the passenger window motor
Treated the rusty sill and protected it
    Sorted out a leaky injector
Sorted the running issue (would stop randomly)
    Replaced gearbox mount and wishbone
Took off the backbox (before it crumbled away)
Ripped out the interior and replaced most of it (as it was destroyed with dirt and years of neglect)

I still have lots to do and am learning more about these cars as I go along! :D

Hi & welcome to the forum. 8)

You don't mess about tinkering around the edges, do you?

We'll all look forward to learning more - is it a 1.9 or 2.1, BTW?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I only had the car 2 days and had the boot carpets and rear bench out :cheesy:

The chap that had it ran a dog rescue centre and dog hair is near impossible to get out... Not to mention the seatbelts were chewed, worst was the smell! :(

It's a 1.9TD :)

It was complete when I got it! Nearly complete again :D

Next on the agenda is wiring up my elec mirrors and converting the rear windows to electric, as I got GLX cards and buttons... Were no bog standard cars at the yard

Now THAT'S how you clean an interior properly!

I used to help out my trader friend's wife cleaning out the cars. She looked at me like I had 10 heads when I got the socket set out before we started cleaning inside a Mondeo one day, but soon realised how much easier it was to clean the floors with the seats out & she could hoover the seats while I scrubbed the inside out without us getting in each others way.

Welcome aboard, it's amazing how much a good clean can do for a car. My last 406 had that dog smell and chewed belts, not pleasant at all.
