I'd have to dissagree to a certain extent:

On a low boost application you can just bolt on a turbo kit, providing the kit is a proper kit or you design a good system with efficient thermal management for the extra heat that will be generated... and a Decat will be needed, you need a free flowing exhaust design.

Its harder on VVTi engines to add a bolt on turbo kits, as most people know!

Whats even better is Mechanical Fuel Injection engines.... now were talking ! Real turbo / engine tuning ! ! :D

Firstly I would like to apologize for my "fluent" english, but I will do my best using the dictionary by my side.

I have Peugeot 605 2.0 8v turbo, 142P, 1994 model .... extremely dispirited power. That’s why I aim at 300HP @ crank at 1.2-1.3 boost.

So I started modifying my engine. I use my block from XU10J2TE with oil spraying nozzles for piston heat transfer in conjunction with 16v head from XU10J4 – 155 HP.

The head will be ported and polished, the volume of the combustion chamber will grow from 38cc up to 48cc, valve angles will be machined in order to improve flame propagation and to reduce the probability of detonations to the possible minimum

I bought brand new turbocharger Garrett GT2860RS. Very fast spinning turbocharger that produces maximum boost at low engine revs. Up to 1.5 bar boost and up to 35lb/h airflow.

New hand-made 4-2-1 exhaust manifold is being manufactured as well as divorced dual chamber downpipe for better response and performance. A couple of days ago I found by chance an intake manifold from GTi6 with 250mm equal length runners with a plenum. The double throttle plate was pretty small so I will fit the 63mm single one from my XU10J2TE. New vertical flow 18.5”x6”x3.50” FMIC from Mustang is on the way as well as 2.5” inlet piping, hoses, bends and clips. A HKS SSQV Blow-off valve will be in my hands on Friday or in worst case on Monday.

The major problem appeared to be the pistons. My engine uses 152mm conrods w. 22mm pressed wrist pin. In order to keep squish clearance within 1.0 – 1.1mm, I will need pistons with compression height 39.1mm …. There is no manufacturer that has in stock such pistons for S16 turbo conversion. So I have to order a set of 4 custom pistons. I hesitate between JE Pistons ($650 USD), Wiseco ($??? USD) and Woessner (900 EUR / $1170 USD). I have almost finished the drawing of the pistons’ dimensions and most probably JE will be my choice. All these 3 manufacturers are well known and have productions of good quality.

As regards to the ECU, I decided firmly to buy a set from Haltech, Australia that consists of E8 ECU, Wideband controller, Basic sensors pack (ATS, CTS, TPS), 3 bar absolute MAP sensor, Boost controller solenoid and Trim module.

If some feels that my project will be useful, I’ll share any information I have collected for the past half an year.

Welcome to the community Misho,

Your project does sound very interesting and would like to see what kind of results you end up pulling for those specs... are you talking 300hp at the hubs or is that a flywheel figure?

At the crank. At wheel perhaps 15HP less. This is with AFR 12:1. If I enrich the mixture, most probably I will hit more 20-30 HP @ crank, but at huge fuel consumption. I was wandering wether to order GT2871R instead ot GT2860RS, but with only fron wheel drive even these 300 are a bit more than the car can handle. Now I use 225/50R16 tyres, and I am to run with at least 255/40R17. Most probably I will decrease the boost at 1-st gear.

Recently I registered a WEB site - http://www.peugeot605svti.com, it's been under construction. I hope in a couple of weeks it will be available for all. There will be section in Bulgarian as well as in English. I will add chat and forum features for better communications. Hope it will be usefully.

The final step will be implementing a sequential turbo system using my GT2860RS and a smaller one - GT2259 - 452214-3 or most probably GT2052 - 727264-5

I will add pictures constantly.

.............................

When I finish with this project, I'll open another one. Again Peugeot 605, but with 3.0 24v engine with bi-turbo. Target 300-350 HP @ crank

It's been a while since i started this topic.

i went from one to another workshop, most of them 'reject' to fit a turbo to my pug because of the turbo manifold is hard to build (custom) and the space is very small. one of them wants to do it for around GBP 1800 complete with intercoolers, engine remap and dyno.

i'm afraid the price is too high since i'm building my pug for a complete project, so i'm considering N/A Tuning.
a friend offers me Apexi AFC SELECT for EURO cars. will this device be compatible or known to be compatible with XU10J4 Engines?

do you guys have any ideas how much power gain from these following N/A Tune?

1. Piggyback (Apexi / Dastek)
2. Re-Map
3. Custom Stainless Steel Exhaust Manifold
4. Exhaust (5 Zigen / HKS / Apex / Remus)
5. Port & Polish
6. Air Induction Kit (Apexi / HKS)
7. Fuel Pressure Regulator (SARD)

those comes from a friend who droves Renault Clio, and he suggest to do those work on my pug.

if shipping isnt a problem k3nny, ive got a gti6 manifold, camshafts and a chip, all these should see maybe 160bhp?
i ruined my car and have no need for them anymore

Hi James,

what happened to your car?

i'm afraid shipping a manifold will be costly since the item is bulk and heavy.
but i'm interested with the chip and maybe the cam shaft as well.
