The car broke itself

I got the cars underside washed today, its a good day for spraying waxoyl, i also got the wheel arch liners off and have sprayed in round the wheel arches to remove any muck, not much just a bit in the back corner of the wings. While i was that far into the car, i pulled out the front fog lights to de fog them, but in doing so i took out the washer fluid tank and the two pumps. But i forgot about these sitting loose.

A while later i started to service the car, so i went to drive it onto a ramp to drain the oil but in doing so drove over one of the washer pumps and a Y junction. It seems to be the headlight washer pump and the Y junction for it, which none of the other 406s have.


dealer prices are
- £53 for the pump
- £25 for the union

Is there another car that would have a similar shaped pump that would do, and could the Y junction be made or removed from something else?

Go to a shop that sells stuff for fish tanks.
have alook at the connectors they sell for air pumps, theyre will be something amongst them that will do the job

It doesn't sound daft, i suppose fish pumps are as powerful if not more powerful than washer pumps, the electrical connector I'm not too concerned about i could solder one in place ok, the biggest issue is the physical dimensions of the pump it would need to be able to slot into the place moulded for it on the resivoir tank.
Although would a fish shop be more expensive than a peugeot dealer?

Indeed they are not truly essential but they are handy in the frost because they usually thaw out before the windscreen washers.

If you still have one pump you can still do what lozz said pet shops will sell you a T piece and you should be able to run both headlight washers.

Or does the pump thats left run the windscreen and rear window?

ebay might be your friend there for some pictures. as refernce

but if was you, id be just making sure the windscreen one is working and just go back to the headlight ones another time,

Ill give ade a go, i also think there was a 406 executive breaking on ebay not so long ago, the pump motor itself is ok, its the housing that holds the propellor and pipework going to it that got crushed by the wheel, the t piece must have got pulled down.
No rush though I've left the car parked on the farm to dry until it gets waxed underneath, the old bike is getting used again

I would have thought the headlight washer pump is quite a high pressure pump cos aswell as washing the headlights it also has to force the washer jets out and up from the bumper.

Its a bulkier looking pump the motor feels like the sort of thing you get in a cordless drill. Are the washers pushed out by water pressuere, i thought there was motors on each washer for that?

No i think it's all done by water pressure,theres no electrics to the washers/jets.Try lifting a washer jet up from the bumper and you'll realise how much work the pump has to do.

Although the part got broken in the process of servicing the engine, the engine did get serviced, and with the camcorder while servicing the engine here is what happened with a bit of editing:

This. All "SE" trim Coupes had headlight washers. "S" trim and the "Silver & Black" special edition trim did not get headlight washers. Ade will have the parts you need.
