10w40 semi synthetic or 5w40 fully synthetic, brand name doesn't matter as long as the spec is good.

Agreed, I use 10w40 semi synthetic.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks guys, what is a "good spec" oil...not sure what to look for, is it true that some of them help the running of the FAP system and stop it getting clogged up?

Good point about the FAP system, I forgot about that....in that case you should use this......http://www.commaoil.com/productsguide/view/6/168 or the Syner Z 5w30 oil.

I use this in my 407 2.0 136 Diesel.

Peugeot reccomends only 5w40 ACEA C3 compliant oils for 406s still equipped with the FAP system. Fully synth. I would not be that strict on the 5w40 graduation but if you plan to keep the FAP a bit then you have to use a fully synth ACEA C3, better if fully synth based too and not those fake mineral base fully synth.

Uhm, that's not low ash (acea c3). It's fine as long as you take care to remove the FAP soon.

Bah, I do not trust those automatic "reccomended" programs. Even the italian Castrol site gives the wrong oil for my 406.
I use Castrol EDGE FST 5w40 right now and it looks OK. The previous oil change I used CarLube TripleR and it was a tad noisier.
