Fault code P0230

Post by tonyjane22 »

The engine management light came on displaying anti pollution fault yesterday and the car went into limp mode gave me upto about 2500 revs per gear, as i tried to get home the engine would cut out. If you left it 5 seconds it would restart and i could continue.

I got it to a friend who is a mechanic and with a reader had the code P0230 showing. After a bit of playing the EM light went out and the car ran fine for 100 miles then back to the above. Also when you turn the ignition off the engine runs on for a few seconds before stopping

This it seems is a Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction.

In Jan the pump in the fuel tank failed and was replaced with a new one. Since then the car has run no problems at all, this week the seal on the top of the tank went so this has been replaced, sadly 1/4 tank of diesel split out overnight onto the road!!

There does not seem to be much of a mention on this site for this code so i was wondering while i wait for monday so i can get the car to a mechanic if anyone has come across this problem before.

The car is an 01 Y 406 hdi 110 estate New pump was a Bosch

thanks in advance

Hi,

From what ican see P0230 is a Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction
thats all ican see on a fault code list, hope it helps if any,

edit sorry didnt read post properly thought you was looking to see what the fault code ment

ive seen this from another source it might be worth a read

Fault code P0230 points to a faulty fuel pump relay. You need to check that the fuel pump in the tank is working and sending fuel up to the engine at good pressure. It sounds like the relay is shutting off and the high pressure pump on the engine is drawing fuel through until you let it idle then it can't draw enough and so cuts out. The relay is called a 'relay module' on this car.
Check fuses 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, in the engine compartment fuse box first. Fuse 25 must be at least 15 amps.

If this all checks out, the fuel pressure regulator is on the end of the pump, not the unit on the top. If you remove this and switch on the ignition - DO NOT TRY AND START - the low pressure pump should force fuel out of the pump here.

have a look here.....

http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/

Select Peugeot/Citroen and put the p0230 code in the search bar.

Maybe have a good look through the Peugeot/Citroen section.

Tony,

I have the exact same problem you described 12 months ago on my Y/2001 HDi 406.

Did you find a resolution?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi guys,

Can anyone help me out identifying the model and part number etc of the Fuel pump in the photo attached. Can't make sense of it!

Cheers,

I am also having this problem at the moment, almost identical to Tony's post, has anyone found out what the cause of this is?
