radiator fan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

radiator fan

Post by Matt »

I'd like to test my radiator fan to make sure it works, where is the connector?

Will bridging the connector with a piece of wire activate the fan?

Cheers

Hi mate what model is it. You can test it by in plugging the temp sensor switch which is located on the right hand side of the head below the intake pipe. Once unplugged turn the ignition on and the fan should kick in full speed.

Don't do bridging connectors on these cars as a rule of thumb. There are some circuits / BSI or ECU paths which cannot handle 12v. If bridging feeds more current than it can handle, there's a chance of you burning either the ecu or BSI.

As pugmaster said locate the fan sensor, unplug and see. Else, the old school method, start up the car, a/c off and let it idle until temp gauge reaches 90. Fans should kick in at 90 (straight at 90 mark) for D9s and 92 (slightly passing 90 mark) for d8s

Thanks, i'll bear that in mind, i disconnected the fan temp sensor and the fan kicked in, i was just a little concerned because my aircon hasnt been working for a while and its been a year or two since i've heard the rad fan come on due to the car being hot, even throughout the latest warm spell we've been having my fan has stayed quiet and the engine temp stable so i just wanted to check everything still worked properly
