Just a quick question.
I have just been a quick drive on the motorway and noticed my engine oil temp was at 100.
Is this ok? I have never driven a car with this gauge before and was wondering if it would do any damage to the engine?
Ive only driven 5 junctions away but in a couple of weeks were going to somerset on hols so want it right before then?

Engine oil should be over 100 degrees on a cruise as it allows it to burn off water and other contaminents in the oil.
If oil never gets hot then it fills up with crap and causes the engine to wear faster (among other reasons).

My present 110 and my old 110 all ran spot on 90 deg cruising at 60-70,if i did stop start town work or gave it a bit of welly it'll go to 100 deg.

Oil should be perfectley upright (or there abouts) on a cruise. About 110°c. Mine used to get quite hot when given abit of welly but never went over 130ish. In my mind it's a useless gauge,an oil pressure gauge is a lot more informative than an oil temp gauge,at the end of the day if it wasn't there you wouldn't worry about it.They are the first cars i've ever had with an oil temp.I remember years back when i had a 7.5ltr V8 Pontiac and i gave it a 70 mile thrash and the oil pressure dropped a lot at the end of it and the next morning it was still very low although the oil was cold,at least with a pressure gauge i could tell the oil was past it's best and needed a change whereas a temp gauge would have told me nothing.

mine does rises up close to 120 mark after a bit of a thrashing on the traffic with high revs. Then I know it's the time to give the lad a little break. In that way it's informative, otherwise only help in giving you a cozy gauge cluster, that's it.
