One thing I've noticed is the price of used diesels has shot up.

Whether this is because of that sCrappage scheme scapping interesting cars in exchange for a Kia Rio, the recession meaning that people cant get credit for new cars (other than company car buyers buying fleets of german boxes) or the price of fuel meaning that everyone wants a diesel.

I was watching the local rallying programme the other day, and they had the Fubaru on it

An impreza in a mk2 bodyshell. The proportions are slightly wrong (the rear wheel is too far to the rear) but its an interesting project! 8)

It looks like a great rally car, the rear wheel does look a bit odd, though they have done a good job of actually moving it back.

I like how they have worked the intercooler in to look a bit like the original grille.

Seemed to do well, when I was watching it on RPM it was a little disconcerting having a mk2 with dump valve / turbo spin noises!

It would go like stink with imprezza running gear in such a light car. There wouldn't be too many mk2 escorts winning rallies with their original engines.

While reliability is definitely a major factor when designing engines for a rally car, it's generally agreed that having one that makes the car go fast is important too.

When I lived in Scotland the garage near Leven usually had a few mk2s

http://www.mercuryclassiccars.com/the_e ... ctory.html

They have a rally car for sale at the bottom of the for sale page

http://www.mercuryclassiccars.com/class ... _sale.html

They're very popular in Irish rallying.
