heres the baffling part,

tyre fitter rekoned the wishbone was fubard, so thats off and been changed nowt wrong with it, fecking arsehole wait well isee him :frown:

when the car is parked on a slope or you go over a bump you get a Bo-ing sound from the supension, theres no clunks or bangs just this dull sound,
spring dont look old and shocker looks ok, (what do you rekon ? change the leg and take a gamble)

theres also play in the steering rack only midges tho and ihad to pull on the hub like a monkey to get the play,
iwonder if thats going to be a fail on the mot idont fancy the changing the rack job

dust cover on one of the track rod ends looks fubard but no play in it

ive just asked someone about a 206 box, and he rekons theres a breaker at Stacksteads that might have them in not sure on directions,
stacksteads is bacup /Newline way iirc

dont know where this yard is mind, didnt even know there was a pug breaker up there, might be worth looking into

There was also an old mill in burney that broke french cars, bought a few bits off them once, they had everything on shelves,
that was a few year back tho not sure if this mill is still there,

Cheers lozz, i'll look into it.

Regarding your Renault, is the top mount ok?

The play in the steering is fairly normal for Renault cars, it's in the inner rack ball joints.....

Track rod ends on the Renaults are a pain, i've changed dozens....4 this week!! They are only about a tenner from factors.

Might be worth taking the strut off and having a good look?

Thanks again,
not sure on the strut tbh, theres no clunks or bangs or creaks its just this spring do-ing noise sounds like a weak spring,
il get another leg from a breaker,

the play in the rack with it being slight, do you think that will get me through mot?

trackrod end, iwill change it for what they cost, iwill get the blow torch on that me thinks if it dont budge

The rack play should, at worst be an advisory, but anybody who sees a lot of these will know the play is fairly normal.

I have a technique for getting the track rod ends unscrewed, undo the big locking nut and spray lots of WD40 on the threads, bash the end of the track rod end and around the area where the big nut fastens on, this loosens the rust and frees them off nicely, put a 13mm spanner on the inner rod and unscrew the track rod end....count how many turns the old one took to remove it (usually 21 on these) and fit the new one the same number of turns.

re: the iner track rod end do the iner ones have the plastic washers like the nissans?

im thinking these may be missing, ive noticed someones put new steering rack gaiters on it,
the play is next to nothing so im thinking they may have thrown the washers over there shoulder ..who evers been at em before,

I've changed loads of these, my supplier does these at a fraction of the dealer price.

PM your reg or give me the year and i'll get you a price.
