My first 406 ... Need help before I get fleeced!

Post by infinatejest87 »

Hi guys this is my first post and I hope I've put it in the right section.
Just bought a 406 GLX 2.0 petrol estate and I have some issues.

1) Whilst I am turning the key and the car is starting their is like a knocking just as it starts. This knocking seems to come from below me and goes away completely after it is started.

2) When I start applying more rev's (over 3000) there is a rattling noise coming from the car. The noise is strange...It is like making something go 'ting' but really fast. It only does it when I rev a lot.

Thank you in advance people. It's a real shame about these two problems because the car is an absolute dream to drive and my 2 Labrador's finally have the room they need (I use to have a 106).

James. :D

Thanks for the fast replies ....

Gonna try and find somewhere that diagnose for free and then take it from there. Hope it's nothing much because it's such a good car to drive and a major improvement on the 106. Looking forward to driving down to Cornwall next month.

My lower engine mount (as you may remember is fecked) and dont make that noise but i recon your right on the exhaust my old Xsara made the same noises because the exhaust never sat right... dodgy fitting maybe or after market parts?

Hi & welcome to the forum. 8)

As the others have said, it's probably just something loose.

The 406 estate's a brilliant all rounder & ideal for canine's croozin'........

Are we there yet?

Search the bay of E for a 2nd hand load liner & grab a cheapy, adjustable dog gaurd but tie-wrap to to the rear headrest support rods, (they're almost invisible & it won't rattle).
