Help HDI 90 Refusing to start after C/S Pully change, SORTED

Hi all, need some pointers here... just changed my crankshaft pully and Aux belt following one of the KB posts and job went well... so I thought till I came to try starting I can hear the fuel pump prime up when ignition is turned on, it cranks over fine (always been a good starter) but that's it, nothing else happens

Now I had the battery disconected for 10 days between removing the old pully and fitting the new due to having a long weekend away and the recent rain, I also broke the wire that goes to the brake pads when removing inner arch, only other thing is the remote key fob fell apart but that was 3 weeks ago and never affected the car...

Cars a 2001 HDI 90 estate and so far been a good runner... carbs and dizzy's are what I know and Im totally stumpted as to where to start with this so any help will be really appreciated... Thanks

Hi scotty,
when you was putting the aux belt on did you move the Ecu out of the way?

if so check thats plugged in correctly,

yeah I moved it out of the way but never disconected it, just rested it on top of engine cover, I'll check if its loose... thanks Lozz

iwouid take battey lead off, follow bsi reset first,

unplug the ecu and plug it back in again,
it might not be the problem but , its gotta be worth a try,

well tried BSi reset and unpluging and repluging the ECU... still nothing

Could the immobliser have triggered and how would I know? Just asking as my car has 2 keys, 1 for the ignition and a different key for the doors etc...

When your key fell apart are you sure the Transponder chip hasnt become displaced or lost,?

Pretty positive... circuit board in key fob fell apart middle of May, car was starting spot on till now

Did take the cambelt cover off to have a look at the belt just incase any debris from the pully got in there... is there anyting around there I could have knocked without noticing?

Tbh. next thing id do is check the timing..

Timing shouidnt have jumped by taking the crankpulley off but its possible,

mmm wouldn't have thought the timing could have jumped whilst stationary... but I guess its worth checking, wont get a chance till the weekend though

Wouldn't have jumped if it was correctly tentioned, not without stripping the belt!
If you slacken one of the injector feeds does fuel pulse out when you crank?

I'll have a check... don't I have to be mindfull of the fuel pressure on these?
I'm a diesel engine virgin havn't got a clue where to start with them need guidence all the way...

last car I had with starting problems was my 73 Charger Dizzy and Carbs

Ok I slackened the fuel feed to cyln 1 and cranked it over... fuel comes out, tried another couple BSi resets, still nothing...

...any debris from the pully got in there...

So the crank pulley disintegrated? I think I'd check the cam timing, just to be sure...

Had suspicion crankshaft pulley was on the way out as I was getting a little rattle every now and then at different points in the rev range... then one day pulling into a diy store carpark I got what I can only describe as sounding like a washing machine full of nuts n bolts, switched engine off popped hood couldnt see anything obvious restarted engine and all was quiet drove home 1mile, accelerating and pulling cleanly, turning into my street it started again.
Car was still starting and running fine, reving cleanly on the drive...just with a hell of a rattle.
Took Aux belt off started car no probs, just the slightest hint of a rattle...
Stripped pulley off and its well mullered, floats around its center by about 1/4"... Aux belt had no damage, took cambelt covers off just to have a look, cambelt looks fine too.
Then disconected the battery to avoid accidently turning engine over through stupidity... never knew about 3min rule or a BSi thingy then, key was prob still in ignition at the time also, went away for a weekend then it rained all week, so 10 days with battery off. Put it all back together on Sunday, battery back on still no idea about a BSi thingy, tried starting... ignition lights on, fuel pump primes and engine cranks over and nothing.
This is where I am at the moment, prob look at timing over the weekend as no time during the week for getting too envolved with it.
