Hey Doggy, was your clutch slipping or something? Why did you decide to replace it?

Yes, while I was on holiday with 4 people & luggage aboard, I thought I heard it slip once while my son was overtaking, then it happened to me on the way home, so I arranged to get it sorted asap.

Needless to say, I couldn't get it so slip again once it was all arranged. :roll:

Ah, right. Yeah mine slips only now and again and not always possible to make it slip. I'd have to *really* rag it for it to throw a wobbly.

The good news is, the vibration was a tired DMF - it's fine now. 8)

Nice. Is it worth going with a solid one? My car is falling to pieces now.... all mounts need changing I bet, even though I changed them all 3 years ago.

I don't honestly know. My gut feeling is the DMF's there for a reason and conveting a remapped car to a solid flywheel makes you more likley to find out the hard way. That's just my opinion, I know many don't share it, but I don't think they'll be around to help if it does go wrong........

A solid conversion would have saved about £100, but since the original did almost 180k, I think this one will see it out.

My exec has had a solid conversion and i have a slight vibration,as i never drove the car when it had a DMF fitted i'm not sure if the solid flwheel is the cause or not,it seems to be more on the overrun than on acceleration,it could be an engine mount but they look fine.I did read on other forums that solid flywheels can cause vibration and if it had been my car at the time of the clutch change i think i'd have fitted a DMF.

The DMF takes the 'shock' out of the downward piston stroke, diesel engines run slightly 'rough' in a way because of the way the combustion goes (sort of strong individual pushes from each cylinder) this makes the flywheel rotate with a sort of twitchy rotation and a DMF will even this out and stop it transferring through the drive train and chassis.

Having said that my Petrol engine has a DMF but I guess that's down to being 5-cylinders which is also kinda rough/unbalanced.

To get clutch slip on the HDi you need the transmission good and hot after at least 2 hours of driving etc. mine slipped like this for 2 years, sold it like it too :supafrisk:

Welp, since a few weeks ago, I couldn't get it to slip but I haven't had long drives - maybe an hour at most. Plenty of smoke and some minor vibration if I boot it though (the remap file is back on :mrgreen:).

My main concern is the exhaust mid-section which is quite rusted at the joint to the rear box. I applied plenty of exhaust sealant but doubt it will stop it from rusting.

Still need to get everything done before winter sets in (although it seems like it's here already) - don't want it conking out.
