NatWest computers down

Anyone in the NatWest might struggle today, their 'systems' have been down for 2 days and peoples wages aren't going in, debit cards not working, cash withdrawals down etc...

Apparently folk are queuing round the corner to get money out at the Branches.

Ihad all this Polava with the Bank im with,
Machines went down, due to change over of the company who deals with the Data,

people where going in to withdraw money from the bank but the Teller was just taking there word that they actualy had them funds in the bank to start with,

ithink it went on for about 3-4 weeks before they sorted out all the glitches,
took me 2wks before igot money back that disapeard out of my account,
the older generation was correct in using the underfloor board banking system me thinks

I think most people get paid towards the end of the month?

What is the underlying problem?
From what I've seen companies like this offshore their development and QA of their software, then upgrade their production system with the latest developed software, it goes tits up, then they have to get expensive contractors in to sort it out, instead of just keeping their local development and QA staff.

A lot of manual workers still get paid weekly so it will affect them first.

Same way as the underfloor 'shoe box' pension fund, gives much better 'returns' than your regular schemes

No doubt they'll be holding up peoples wages on one hand, and on the other will be charging and setting up repossession notices for late payment of mortgages

It'll take all weekend apparantly.
I'm glad I dumped Ulster Bank. Wasn't because of any technical fault, but because their staff were disinterested in giving me a proper student account back in teh day. Now I'm earning proper wages they're not getting any of it. They'd be holding it up anyway. Useless gets.

They can muck about all they want, call their call centres (again offshored) and you get fobbed off, yet as soon as one of your payments is a day late you get charged, wee letters through, marked on the credit rating etc.

Banks are fsckers.

crash the systems, clear out the kitty and loan it out for aday or two
thus making them loads of interest on the money that theyve borrowed /stole for the day or so,

Very telling statement that, the belief that banks and the public are "them and us" and sheer frustration that they aren't playing fair.
Total mistrust in those whose establishments were set up to trust in our money!
It does seem that the banks can get away with anything scot free. During the 1930s depression, bankers threw themselves off buildings in dispair. In the 2000s-2010s depression, it is ordinary people who are seeking a way out. What a disgrace.

I feel sorry for anyone affected by this problem, but please look at the bigger picture and the problems this is causing to the bank staff....my wife included, she has had a rotten week trying to work with the systems down...she's going to have to work tomorrow as well.

Most bank staff at the coal face are going to have to work extra because of this. Weekend work seems to be the case with any IT production issue. Ho hum.

But what people are venting their frustrations on are the bank themselves, including upper management, not the individual branch staff.
Do you think the CEO of RBS is working this weekend? Is he tuck. Probably away a jolly to the South of France or on the golf course.

Where were the backout plans before this happened? Every time we go to a production server we have to have extensive rollback backout plans in case it all goes pete tong.

people get discruntled with bank staff because the managers wont face the customers, thats what inoticed anyway,

iwas amongst around 14 people in a que when ihad the problem with the banks failures, wasnt nice to see grown men shouting and waving there hands at the lady behind the counter,

the Managers shouid come out and take some preasure off the staff

Turns out they offshored 800 IT jobs.

Has turned around and bitten them in the arse.
Still, whatever management sacked the IT workers and brought in cheaper offshore solutions no doubt walked off with a healthy costcutting bonus that year.
