Ok done a bit more fiddling tonight, tho the rain stops me getting too mechanical tonight and have a couple more questions,
When I have either key in the ignition, turned off and I open the door it does the normal bleeping thing... does this mean it's reconising the transponders in both keys and therefore not immobilised?
If the timing is out and I crank the engine... shouldn't there still be a hint of combustion eg smoke from exhaust? I ask as a petrol engine would give the odd cough, this gives nothing.
Would giving it a snort of easystart be likely to cause any damage to the HDi engine?
How long do the pins need to be to lock the engine so I can check the timing? hopefully there be a break in the weather over the weekend.

OK just checked timing... Its Spot On
If its reconising the key in the ignition, the timings right and there's fuel at the injectors...where to go now???

confusing that,
if youve only changed the crankshaft pulley it shouid fire up,
perhaps a sensor is down, camshaft sensor perhaps
im not certain where it is on these engines mind,

FWIW:
If the key isn't read then you get a beep and warning on the MFD and a dash light (square with key going into it from the right). In this case it will crank but not fire.
No fault codes? (Beep and engine management light.)
IIRC with a lot of the sensors (certainly with the TPS) you don't get the beep and message until after the engine has started: so maybe we have a catch 22.
Can't PP2000 test sensors? Any chance you can get PP2000 on it?

it does everything it normaly would... dash lights go through their sequence, fuel pump primes, etc...
I dont know anyone locally with a pp2000, would have to call someone out

Just a thought, could it be air in the system after standing for a while. Have you tried priming the system.

Did you try the easy start yet?
It won't do any harm to your engine trying to start it once or twice.
Maybe you should be looking down the electrical route next.

Not tried the easystart yet, worth a shot to confirm it runs...
@Jasper, I think your right about looking for an electrical fault... Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram from?
Came across a post the other night about the BSI not being able to wake the ECU because of a broken wire in the loom... can I find that post now

they have code readers and stuff.

Car started before you changed the pully ?
My guess is that you messed up with the timing belt ...and now it's not synchronous with the engine ...

Well, took rocker cover off and alls well in there, split the loom at the ECU to look for any broken wires and nowt there, I've given it a sniff of easystart and it fired...
i don't think its mechanical. going have to get it checked for fault codes...

nice idea tho.
Although the cars not taxed at the moment so best not
... pulley failled at the end of May so I decided not to tax it for June... to split it away from the wifes car as her tax renewed in April.

Update... still not running. I'm waiting to locate another RF Key Fob before getting someone out with a laptop as I think it's something to do with disconnecting the battery mucking with the immobiliser... no point doing it twice
