Promises I shouldn't have made...

Post by Bailes1992 »

Went for a meal tonight with the family and dragged the GF along.

We parked on double yellows down a deserted side street. (I know we shouldn't but the restraunt carpark was full) We wearn't in a way of anything etc etc.
The GF paniced as she hates parking on double yellows, so I told her I'd pay her fine if we get tickets...

One you had coming, but four is spiteful. Such over zealous unhelpfulness ought to be grounds for dismissal.

thats the way it shouid be mate,
but it dont work like that, it costs more in the long run to challenge parking fines .

over here they just send the paperwork off to warwickshire county court
a few months later, you get a big chap at your door pay this or give us the keys to your car sir,

the courts give them enforcement to do what they want,

Best thing to do with parking fines is pay them by Cheque,
if you havent got a cheque book find someone who as

send them a cheque for the fine,

reason why,

pay fine early its cheaper,
pay by cheque takes them longer too get the money 7days iirc

There are times when I see bmws so badly parked / unneccessarily using disabled spots that I *wished* there was a traffic warden about.

How can you get four? Surely once you have one, and you haven't moved the car there is nothing they can do!

I had to made a few deliveries to All Saints on Regents st London a few years back whilst fitting it out.
Traffic wardens galore, but once the ticket was on the vehicle, they couldn't put another on.
One evening I sat there from 17.30 till 12.45 and only got the one ticket

They take photos of your car, so request the photos - if it shows the car hasn't moved, they can only have you once
They usually take photos of the position of your valve caps in relation to the wheel, so will be the same in all of them.

And send them a cheque for a penny less than the fine

Oh look - found this "The Law is that only one PCN can be issued to any vehicle in the same day so for instance if you received a PCN at 23.58 on say monday night then you could get another at 00.02 on tuesday morning."

I think it's the 1991 Road Traffic Act which decriminalised parking enforcement. This means that local authorities enforce parking restrictions using parking attendants, rather than the police using Parking Wardens. Parking is now not a criminal offence, but non-payment of the fine imposed by the local authority is a civil offense.

What makes me  is that this is another example of how local authorities are being run to benefit themselves (by generating revenue) in preference to providing a service (preventing parking in places where it causes problems to other road users).

No, don't pay the wrong amount or miss date the cheque. What will happen is that they will class it as non payment and send it straight to court, costing you lots more. It's your responsibility to pay the correct amount, not theirs to chase you.
