Hello all, my name is Michael from Ireland. Just got myself an 1999 406 hdi estate 110hp in the best colour... cherry red.
It has a few problems, so i got it cheap. Failed mot on droplinks, oil level too high(?!) and other small bits.
It replaced my mx5, since our daughter (7 month old) could not join us anywhere. :P
Car has 133000 miles "possibly", because it has no servicing history, but it is very clean inside and out.
Cruise control not working, blower not blowing and a couple of intermittent malfunctions with warning lights.
Will post some pictures soon.
Lovely forum you have here, great knowledge for DIY'RS like me.

You lost me there. Explain please.
I know d8 and d9 denomination is based on year... or is it?

Welcome in matey,

D8.5 is a cross over between the D8 or Mk1 and the D9 or Mk2

Depending on what was in the parts bin cars came off the lines with Mk 1 bodies and Mk 2 internals and vice versa and probably lots of combinations in the middle.

Drop links are an easy diy job especially if you have access to an angle grinder but can be done with non power tools and a little more patience, lots of info on here if you have a search.

Interesting to see your car failed on oil level too high  , is that a requirement now?

133,000 is just about run in

Previous owner tried to NCT it (same as your mot), a few days before i bought it, but had no clue.
too much oil and tech is not able to do emissions check, apparently.

D8.5 is a D8 with a HDi engine. The HDi was released in the last of the D8's for some strange reason. It's not a bad combination (although the old school XUD diesel was kinda bullet proof compared to the HDi) because the D8 was constructed from better stuff than the D9.

Anyone know what else should be "displayed" in the little display above the heater knobs (see pic above)?
It is showing scorching temperature at the moment (broken sensor I imagine), but since it has multiple wiring connected behind, i think it should have other purposes?!

Noticed today, regarding the digital display, that it only has enough display space in the centre where temperature actually shows.

wonder if it may be replaced and if the trip computer may be wired or is actually prewired in there?

any help?
