The Plodmobile till it dies :(

Post by plod »

Didn't have far to go today, only to Leamington which is 25mile away

Misses texted me to say it was Hailing there and they were the size of Golf Balls

Got back, and the roof has around a dozen dents, the boot has three dents, the bonnet has around a dozen dents, and the front wings are dented.

I had until this point, still valued my car at about £800, but I think the Insurance will only value it at £500
Now with the excess, and the loss of no claims bonus, there are two things, here, one the insurance will write it off, and secondly it will cost me dearly.

Thus I think i'm going to have to run the plodmobile till it dies :|

If it came to it, could I buy a late D9 with say a fecked engine, and put as many of my goodies onto it, and my engine into it?
I would assume it's safe to say my ECU can't be used in a D9

Mate of mine from Nottingham posted a status on facebook about hailstones the size of golfballs, thought he was abroad!

Your ECU won't go in a D9 no, engine should no problem though.

I'd be gutted :( Your D8.5 was MINT!

Works for the wings, bonnet and boot, but not the roof
Roughly £100 per panel to paint - not worth throwing the money at it
May as well try and pick up a late D9 with a fecked engine, and drop mine in, and sell the rest off - if i'm lucky, might not cost me too much

My mate who has a paint shop has had his phone ringing off the hook.
Car sales place next door, has had 89 cars damaged - about 30 next door, and the rest up his other unit, where they got it worse, and as well as dents, they has windows smashed, and wing mirrors smashed off

Bad enough, but seems there are worse
Mate's MG ZS is bladdered
Passat round the back, the back window is blown out

Guy turned up in his Volvo, and got quoted a £1000
As he has a £550 Excess, he's paying cash to get sorted, as in long term will cost him more with increased premiums

ithink the sandstorm we had was the result of a row of terraced houses getting Blown up about 20odd miles away, you most probs seen it on the news , a 2yr old got killed in the blast, :(

I'm supprised insurance is paying out at all. "Act of god" an all that.

How about buying a D9 and reshelling your D8.5 into it. D9 on the outside and D8 interior/electrics etc.
One of the reasons I got rid of my D9 as it felt like a tin can compared to my D8.

Sam, I haven't contacted my Insurance, as that is how I seen it at first "Act of God" an all that
I've heard local people round here on FB saying some are getting paid, and others not
Not worth me even ringing I reckon

Mmmm, interesting concept Sam, D8 electrics and interior, my ECU and engine in a D9 :D 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

There was a D8 1.9TD Executive on autotrader about 6 months. 44,000miles, services every 6 months in the same Peugeot dealer for all of it's life, recent timing belt etc etc. In Diablo with cream leather. I toyed for weeks with the idea of buying it, getting a cheap D9 and making it a proper D8.5 but it sold before I got the chance :(
Although I wouldn't have done a full reshell, just put the 406 D9 extrerior panels, lights etc on the D8 and had it resprayed.

Was going to replace the backplate on the nearside, as Dai very kindly let me have his not so bad one, and fit another new hub, but wondering if it's worth while now?

Although checking out the cost of car rental for the week I go on holiday, I think I still better

Apparently if you're fully comp you can claim but will have to pay the excess. I think Insurance Co's will send out Dent-Masters and the like first to do a 'smart repair'.
