Honda Accord Expensive repairs
My dads friend has an accord 2.2 cdti, its been a good car up till now but recently its had a vas light come on, and the timing chain is making a noise. The normal mechanic won't touch it and the dealer says the cars out of warranty so it will cost £2k to fix, and the vsa thing is going to be about £1000 to sort out.
We had neighbours with an accord, it was making a noise like this one for a while and then the car disappeared, it turned out they couldn't afford to fix the timing chain.
Its worth watching, honda isn't the same car they used to be.

The Accord forums don't recommend the diesels. The Vtec is more reliable but heavy on juice.
An Avensis d4d might be a better diesel?
If the Honda is a certain age Donnellys in Belfast do half price on labour costs.

Its hondas own diesel engine a 2.2 diesel, an acceptable engine when its going although it has a fondness for oil, Toyotas D4D is a better engine, at least toyota has been making diesels for a long time
This car was bought from Donnelley's, but its gone out of warranty a few months and they won't fix the VSM module.

I don't think any car is the same as it used to be. You only need to flick through a couple of Forums and there's all kinds of horror stories to put you off. Cars are stupidly complicated now thanks to ever-tightening emission controls and our fascination with Sat Nav guided Stability Controlled cup-holders......FarmerPug wrote:honda isn't the same car they used to be.
I don't think I'd buy a used Honda Diesel just from what people say about them on these here forums.

The accord had to get a new rear wheel bearing and it cost £100 for one side.
Replacing the 406 becomes less appealing every time i hear of the huge bills involved in fixing a more modern car.

I've had 3 Jap cars and I wouldn't say they were any better than other European-type cars. The parts are so expensive too.
I suppose they're ok when they're working but when the go wrong......lordy lordy

The Accord coupe was a few hundred quid getting new discs and calipers on the rear.
The worst about it is that its a bit of a rare car, so getting parts is a bit more difficult and there's not many in the scrap yards.
Had similar issues with the GTV.
MOT tomorrow, so crossed fingers....
(Need to get a sidelight and its an awkward bugger to get at, need to go in through teh wheelarch liner. Lets hope it doesnt rain at lunchtime...)

I remember the old carina, a 2.0 ish N/A diesel it never gave any trouble but the service items such as air and fuel filters were more expensive than the same parts for a 405.

Re: Honda Accord Expensive repairs
One of the guys in my old work (the office downstairs) has a Carina diesel.
It looks like it's been well used and taken some abuse, but it keeps on going. He said he would get rid of it when it gives up, and he hasn't got rid of it yet!
They're popular out in the sticks and down south too the Carina diesels.
The JonJo satnav incorrectly specified a 3.0 chipped Carina. Unless it was a Japanese import which are also popular in the South. You're as likely to see a March as a Micra.

The man at the MoT centre this morning said it was optional for staff to work that day but it would clear a bit of the never ending queue.FarmerPug wrote:So you can pray before going for the MOT test, great stuff.
It annoys me sometimes that they hold that day in special reverence apart from a few hours in the afternoon when the fairy-story believers will allow you to get your messages.
