Hdi MPG variations

Post by piglet »

Having fixed the alternator AND changed the oil 2 weeks ago my computer MPG has been steadily climbing despite refilling & resetting the computer last week.
I was doing well to get 39 on the computer before the oil change but it has now crept it's way up to 43.
What's going on? The car still runs the same, it's no faster.

How much difference does new oil & filter make?
If lots then which oil gives best MPG?
Which filter gives the best MPG?
Is it the new oil or the new filter?

I don't think it's related to your oil and filter change, probably just coincidence.

I'm currently getting unusually good mpg, (for me) - the last two tankfuls have returned 45.6 & 44.8 respectively accoring to the trip computer and my brim-to-brim cross check last night gave 63.89l / 639 miles or 45.4 mpg. I think it's down to a combination of weather, traffic conditions and me being a morsel more patient. :supafrisk:

I've got a 2.2 and getting around 40mpg on the trip and 37mog genuine.

Towing I managed 35MPG, but was cruising at 55mph.
