Adding your car(s) spec on the forum post?

Post by XonL »

Hello, I am new to all this forum stuff, and new to Derv ownership after years of petrol only.
Back in Feb 2012 got a 2000W, 406 Lx 110Hdi now with 106k on the speedo. Had local garage do full service in feb, and they have fixed the rattles and faults, and passed its mot last week.
I put a reply post on the Engine pages about its engine problem, which is not in the mot!
I will have to do a test drive with the mechanic to show him the fault, as describing it has not raised his eyebrows. His comment is "it's a low pressure turbo, comes in at 3000 rpm and it is working".
Anyhow,
How do add a bottom line to a forum post, detailing your car and its spec?
Ps My kids are far far better at this computer stuff than me, Cheers XonL

The turbo is effective from about 1800rpm, and by 3000rpm the HDi is "out of puff" but will keep going up to about 4200.

See, e.g., Re: No oomph!

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Yes it is my first 406, our other car is a Seat Cordoba (an Ibiza saloon, made of vw Polo bits) with 6speed, 1.9 Tdi 130bhp, which has VW's easy to stall, big turbo motor. It's derv but behaves like a tuned petrol engine, nothing under 1500rpm and goes to Warp +7 @ 1800 to 2000rpm. Difficult to drive it smoothly, chews front tyres, but goes like a rocket, when given any press on the go pedal.
I couldnt live full time with the hard ride, psyco power, no space for a big left foot, and the invisible tailend when reversing, but its not my car!

The 406 is the complete opposite to drive, yes its a heavier car, and I can hear the turbo, and feel the turbo boost come in.
Problem is the throttle pedal feels to be connected - back to front or upside down.
Just a light pressure on the pedal = a brisk flowing drive all the way up to 75-80 mph. As I expect from a 2litre motor, and using first third of the pedal's travel I guess. BUT,
Press harder on the pedal to take off at a junction or speed up to join M-way or a roundabout gap....... and it feels like the engine has half closed the throttle butterfly flap, not opened it. I know that it has not got a throttle flap! ....... It sort of gains extra road speed THEN as the pedal is lifted to maintain a steady road speed or ease off slightly, the car picks up and will go faster, when the pedal has been lifted!
Previous caravan tug was a Volvo 850 2.5 Auto, good car, plenty of power and thirsty. But the 406 when towing is a nightmare at the moment, pulling up Mway hills is either done with the best power in the light throttle opening or down two gears to rev it @ 3000rpm for noise, basically the car has no EXTRA POWER setting to safely accelerate out of a situation.
This 406 is slower on full throttle, and quicker with less throttle, than a 2CV : had 4 of them in the past. Any ideas which bits are not at the party??

Yes, lozz, I 'looked' at the throttle cable, weeks back, it did seem to be a bit slack.... I will sit down with Haynes and figure it out.
I've been distracted by faults in linkages, brake calipers, frt wh bearing and an indicator stalk. Now the car rides like I expected it should do.
