Anti-start/theft system
I had this posted in the electrical section but got no replies.
Anyone got any ideas.
The only time I will have to fix it will be Saturday, so any advice will be welcome.
I have a 1996 1.9 Diesel Executive.
It ran smoothly on Saturday.
Sunday; Try to start as normal, put key code in and get both the Red and the Green lights on the key pad saying light. The Red should go out and only the Green should be on.
The engine throws over but there is obviously no fuel getting through, which is what is supposed to happen when the system is not de-activated. Both lights remain on after the key is removed and go off after several minutes.
The little red flashing light on the dash, the anti-theft system armed light, is not flashing but on steadily.
I have tried leaving it for an hour but the fault re-occurs.
I have tried leaving it for an hour without the battery but the fault re-occurs.
Any ideas how/what to check?
Thanks.
Regards,
Colin.

Sounds very similar to when my keypad through a wobbler, undo the fuse panel cover so that you can access the keypad through the cover (does that make sense?).
A couple of the numbers are tricky to get at like this but try moving the keypad the minimum amount to access the numbers you need.
On mine it was straining on the wires with the keypad in the normal position to enter the code, but fine if I dropped the fuse cover.
Once it started I just disconnected the keypad.
It will be fixed.......one day

Re: Anti-start/theft system
Well, an unsuccessful day.
Took off the the keypad, it was clean and all the wires are sound as far as I can see.
Also took the ecu offand checked all the connections. all clean and dry.
There is no fuel getting through, so I thought of taking the stop solenoid out.
There seems to be four wires going to it, one is an earth, the other two have 12v to them. The four gives just a tiny flicker on the multimeter, even when set down to 2.5vdc. I don't know what that means, if anything.
The four wires go into a black "box" on the back (starter motor side) of the injector pump. It has the four solid pipes going to the cylinder just off each corner. The black box is held on with two anti tamper studs in deep sockets. Is the stop solenoid under this black box. I have prepared the area but if anyone could confirm this is the solenoid that would be great.
I am going to have a cup or tea, or maybe a lager, and try and get my son to shoew me how to post picture of this.

Colin.

Re: Anti-start/theft system
Success.
The black box is the cover, protection to the stop solenoid.
I took it apart carefull and it took a couple of hours. If I was doing it again, I would use a large hammer and do it in ten minutes. In the box is a small circuit board. This was not passing the supply to the solenoid. I by passed it and the car started first time.
I will check later but I think the circuit board is linked into the the collision stop switch and pre-heat, so these systems are now bypassed as well.
The lights on the key pad remain on, so the car now starts on the key only, but I can live with that. Most of the time was taken up removing air ducts, cable harnes, etc to gain access and then putting it back again.

Splendid
On that age of car the cut out switch is probably something else to go wrong but the pre-heat I presume is the glowplugs, you'll have a bitch of a time starting it

Re: Anti-start/theft system
The diagram in Haynes shows it connected but I am not sure whether it is just taking a signal to say that they are functioning or actually making them work. Electrical diagrams are not my strong point. The car fired up ok on Sunday, although it was a mild day, so pre-heat possibly wasn't needed.
I am going to try on eBay to see if I can get the little circuit board, but that is more out of interest. I am fairly sure it is not really needed.

Colin.

Re: Anti-start/theft system
When you do finally get it running, its probably worth disconnecting that keypad immobiliser to save yourself some more possible hassle. Just need to unplug it at the back once the engine is running.
