Lower suspension ball joint removal tool

Post by cox377 »

Hello guys,

I've googled the removal tool but it's showing a few different sizes. What's the exact tool for a 1998 406?

Thanks

I was skeptical too, but having seen the demo, I'm now convinced, (thanks jasper5).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I think the hammer is a Splitter,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEALEY-Peugeo ... 27c834fb86

This is a remover. I got one last year. Not professional quality but good enough for a DIY. I took off the hub assembly and took it down to a local garage, with the removal socket and they removed the old ball joint and fitted the new.
I had experience on a ZX Citreon so I new it was abeast of a job.

I don't know why they are listing this removal tool as being for a 407, the 407 is a completely different ball joint which doesnt need a removal tool.

Hi
Here's a video of how its done, came across this by accident a while ago. A couple of people watched it and said it would be easier if you take the brake disc and caliper off before doing it. hope this helps. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrSCbMZLgKA

Thanks for that video,

He makes it look easy!

I've ordered a new ball joint, but TBH by the time I've bought the tool it might be easier to wip the whole unit off off a donner car?

Thanks

Hello guys,

My motor failed the MOT on both front lower suspension ball joint boots. I assumed this was a case of changing both ball joints but the MOT guy told me they just replace the boots.

Has anyone done this, and on a 406?

Did you take the unit off the car and put it in a vice for this?

No I do it with it on the car just undo the nut but leave it in the wishbone until u loosen the ball joint then pop it out of the wishbone and un screw it
