For Sale: 406 2.0l HPi Executive Estate

Post by DaiRees »

Yup, it's the end of an era!

It is with much regret that my 406 has to go. I've waved a white flag, admitted I'm old and bought a Volvo  .

Right, those of you who are regulars on here will know my car. It's a 2002 51 plate Executive estate in Samarkand Blue with "Oyster" leather interior. She's fully loaded with such toys as heated seats, folding mirrors, Sat Nav etc, you kow the stuff! She's got a full stainless exhaust system with a lifetime warranty, and the front tyres are only a week old!! Tax and MOT until January 2013 (it never had so much as an advisory!).

Most of you will know that I've had this car since it was 6 months old, so she's been my pride and joy for 10 whole years now. During this time she's only managed to clock up 89000 miles and has always been kept under cover, I've ensured that it's been maintained to schedule (time, not milage) and never skimped on maintenance, all parts used are either genuine or very good quality.

She has some very minor bodywork scarring on the offside rear wing where I entered into a disagreement with a white van some 5 years ago (again, many of you will remember this  ), it's only really noticable when you reflect a straight edge along the panel (such as a fence or kerb stone), other than that there's a small supermarket ding in the rear passenger side door and that's it, generally in excellent condition for it's age, the alloys have never even been kerbed (and there are 5 of them, I bought an extra alloy for the spare!)

As for what it's worth, I'm not really sure, I'd like to see her fetch somewhere in the region of £1500, with such low milage I don't think that's unreasonable, but am always open to offers from club members. I'm not sure when I'm having my new car yet but I'm hoping it'll be this coming weekend, so the pug might be avaiable as soon as this Friday!

I'll take some more pics tomorrow, but in the mean time here's one or two to be going on with...

Dude I have considered it, it's probably worth more in bits than it is as a whole, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that....

It would make a cracking used buy for some lucky individual. Unfortunately with the miles I do it has to be a diesel - if yours was a 2.2 HDi, you'd already be missing one arm.....

Good luck with the sale.

I have to say I am a little concerned at the stealthy advance of the Volvo marque within our hallowed ranks,
is this because of the lack of interest in the natural successors, (the 407/508)?
Or because after a lengthy period of 406 ownership, one is too long in the tooth?

Serious questions indeed, (come October, I'll have had mine 4 years).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I never took to the 407, and the 508 styling isn't exactly setting me on fire. Plus it just seems like an awful lot of money for what it is, and it's gonna depreciate like a.... well, like a French car. Having said that, a freind of mine has had one as a rental and he was full of praise.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that a Volvo is in any way better, it's just what fits the bill the best (for this old bloke  ) and IMO it was the one that I feel will age most gracefully out of all the cars I considered.

You know you were saying you couldn't bring yourself to break the car? well picture this... your lump that hasn't been broken in yet replaced by a 2.0hdi thats done not far short of a quarter of a million miles.

add a tow hitch and a big hairy fooking dog in that nice clean boot... Might aswell break it.

Thanks mate, our illustrious leader Nick is the real Mr 406oc, but it's kinda understandable that you'd think that since I've been driving them for 12 years and was one of the first members of this ere community. 8)

It'll be a sad day when it goes that's for sure

Puggy -    It's a very nice Vulva though
