Reconnected and Cleaned the EGR
I removed the egr blanking plates this evening, then let the car run for a bit, then sprayed a tin of wynns egr cleaner through the air filter box, after you take the filter out that hole sprayed it following the instructions, a few times it got a bit clattery but overall it took the stuff well, then i revved it 10 times up to 3000rpm, let it idle some more and turned it off.
Now its much quieter, seems to idle nicer than it has been idling the last few weeks.
How often is this cleaner supposed to last, when should it be done again?

Re: Reconnected and Cleaned the EGR
yup some ebay seller quite helpfully knew the egr dimensions for the 406, so he made aluminium blanking plates, they cost less than £10 i think for the pair and are of great quality, no rough edges precise fit. In fact the seller actually was helpful when i scanned in the fuel pump gasket from my suzuki he was able to draw it in CAD and get it lasered out, took less than a week and was still under £10.
But at the moment the egr is reconnected, cleaned out and the car is running better now that its getting cold, i thought it was best, some didn't advise blocking off the egr, though this can cause a debate.

A few on the coupe club have done it, we blanked a few past few weeks. The performance is tiny bit better n mpg is better n less black soot. I've not done mine yet as I've.not had any problems. The egr is a waste of time really, making the engine choke on the crap it throws back in n was only made to reduce the nox levels, just to make the government happy, same with the particulate filter.Did u find it run better with or without? How long did u run yours for with it off?

Re: Reconnected and Cleaned the EGR
The EGR lowers the NOX by reducing combustion temps by reducing the amount of oxygen in the combustion process. It only does this at tick-over or partial load though.

I honestly didn't notice much of a difference, i could have been letting myself on that there was any difference initially but it wasn't much, then the car started running a bit rough when the cold mornings started so i changed it back about a month ago. Its not really a big enough difference on the 2.0 110.

I think it's a bit of a non-issue really. The important point is that the EGR doesn't get stuck open, which may be caused by it being coked up.

Re: Reconnected and Cleaned the EGR
How wud u tell if it is stuck open?
Is there any benefit from removing the EGR n plumbing altogether? I've not had mine done yet as I'm waiting to see how some of the coupe guys get on with theirs since their removal.

Mine was leaking, it was pretty sooty and you could smell exhaust fumes coming from it.
I had my whole system smoke/pressure tested on a machine and we could see the white test smoke pissing out from the EGR so it was replaced. The car was a lot more perky with the new valve in place.

They are located at the back of the engine and access is tight, they are hex shaped heads so an allen key or socket set that has allen bits will remove them, 4 of them to remove i believe, then the bolts that hold the pipes in place.
Give me a few mins and ill try and get up a diagram showing their location
