1.7 VVT frod zetec-s cambelt change - easy?

Post by Doggy »

Been asked to 'help' change one for a family friend.

Anybody done one? Any snags / points to watch / should I pretend to be deaf?

Thanks, in anticipation.......
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks lozz. Sounds tricky as you say.

Think I will do a lot more investigating before even thinking about trying.

Be very careful doing this job, there is a routine that you have to follow or it can go horribly wrong

The crank pulley which carries the timing belt and the crank pulley for the aux belt DO NOT HAVE A KEYWAY!!!! Nor do the camshafts.

Along with using the crank timing pin, personally, I mark the teeth on the flywheel (accurately). You can get away without the timing pin by setting the cams and number 1 piston at TDC by removing number one plug and use a screwdriver to define nearest to TDC where the cam locking plate will fit into the cams at the rear.....but you MUST have marks on the flywheel.

I have the cam timing tool Eric, you can have mine if you like, just ask and i'll send it off to you.

You MUST set the tension with ALL the pulleys slack.....I can give you a full description if you like.

When are you doing it? I will be on holiday from tuesday for 2 weeks.
