MY PC IS DEAD...........

Post by niz406 »

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Yes its true, and I don't know what to do... cause i'll never signature you ! lmao

Guys and gals, my desktop has thrown a hissy fit... I paid out in excess of £500 for a motherboard, proccessor and memory 12 months ago, and the motherboard has gone through 2 failed chipset fans and 1 complete board.......

It has now goe through another chipset fan and so the board will not start up, going to strip it and try another chipset fan tomorrow night after work... if this is sucessful then you should see me back on the desktop soon, if not then it will be a while before I get it back from where ever I have to send it for repair.... hopefully not tiwain ffs.

Those who want sigs please bare with me and i'll sort it as soon as I get up and running again....

Its now a race to see which is up and running first the car or the PC lol

SO please think of me as PC'less well in theory when your shopping the internet ( welton ) browsing the porn ( captain ) Posting your own nude pics ( james ) LOL as I won't be..... what a lonely couple of nights this is going to be

Such a shame the 360 doesnt give me a keyboard and I-Net access....GRRRRRRRRRR

Northbridge fans are more trouble than they're worth, especially if you leave your machine on 24/7 - as soon as the power goes out for the first time that's the fan bearings shafted. First thing I do after I've made sure a motherboard's not DOA is to rip the hsf off and stick a nice passive Zalman heatsink on instead. Shouldn't stop the mobo from firing up tho!

well I've tried stripping it down to basic components and trying to fire it up... all with no joy... the fan is dead tested that first of all as it is a known problem.... thing is I don't know when it went because its been working all day because \I remote into it at work all day and there hasn't been any problems, until I came home and restarted it a few times !

everything is about 12 months old and so it shouldn't be anything else as proven by trying to start her up with just the vga/memory and processor in.... its DFi I tell you... usig crap fans the things prolly been running most of the day without the fa on and its burnt out the chioset... the hsf is like 3mm thick as there isn't much room for uprated items due to the board layout and the fact the vga card has to sit over it...

oh dear its all gone to pot ! andf to make things worse, my laptops keyboard is playing up...... the right shift keyy doesnt work, the C key is tempremental and the return key has fallen off !!!!! WTF

Sorry to the Non Techies for the techie style post but you think thats bad Niz

As you can see from a few post down I was greeting one all all from Taiwan

Well

Now I'm in the Hong Kong office to rebuild the Domain Controller here

And I came with 1 x Windows 2000 Server cd with Sp4 and 1 x with Sp3

Now last week I used the Sp4 CD no problems

And so I blat the server (wipe the data - for the un initiated amongst us) go thru the compaq shite and bung the sp4 Cd in and what do I get - nothing (other than a polite error about the CD - whick BTW is mint)

So I've gone back thru the compaq sh*t but this time used the SP3 CD

I've sweated buckets here I can tell you

But I think I'm out of the cack - except now I'm copying the SP4 file form london

I'm christ knows how many miles from home, then ingrish here isn't wonderful and I've got bullshite messgaes about CD's not being good

PARP

Luckily it's just finished and rebooted!

No I don't want any ones sympathy - I just want to get back to blighty and my 406

I kind of know what you saying here. You wiped everything off the computer, and for a while thought it was gone forever?

If it's all good now fella then well done. You should ask for a pay rise when you get back.

[whispers] michael, since your in Hong Kong like, err, why don't you pop out tonight for a 'special shandy' I hear it is very good, and cheap too. Just make sure you get served by a 'proper' female. [/whispers]

It's Compaq isn't it that have the *special* way of getting Windows onto their server kit, ain't it? Basically boots you into linux (based off redhat iirc), fires up apache, X, and a full-screen mozilla browser, and does the installation from the .cab files via a series of java CGIs, sticking drivers in as it goes. Nice inventive solution to the problem of the Windows installer being a royal pain in the arse!
