90 and map it!
Quite happilly will do 60mpg on a nice 60-70mph run.

Only thing I would say is due to it having a shorter ratio gearbox it can sometimes feel hard work cruising at 90+. Remap fixes this

Nowt wrong with 110s mate,

only downfall is theyve got The Dmf, but tbh how Many do you hear of that Fail on on 406s?
id say itd be very unlucky if you have one Fail,

ive seen plenty of mint 90 hdi 406s im holding out for the right 110 to turn up.
the 110s have plenty of power standard withought remaps. so it ticks all the boxes for me,

Good luck with witch ever you choose end of the day there both reliable

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Every single 110HDi I hear start up now do that famous 'chirp' or 'squeak' noise where the DMF is knackered but yes you don't hear of many failures. They was a guy on here years ago where the DMF really spewed it and started catching the bell housing

Most clutches/fly's just start to slip with age but even then you can live with it - like I did for 2 years, even sold it on like it.

If I had my time again I'd buy a 90 and have it remapped to 120 and fit a new lower engine mount - job done!

Goto remember not only does the 90 have a lighter flywheel it has a lighter crank too! They are pretty revvy when remapped.
You also have a smaller turbo and no intercooler pipework so you have no lag at all!

I'd put money on a remapped 90 being quicker than a remapped 110 any day of the week!

I'm also convinced a remapped 90 would destroy a standard 136! Up till about 100mph when it's out of revs anyway :supafrisk:

Would a 2001 pre multi plex be a good choice? But i Cant find a 2001 rapier and its gotta be a Y reg on for tax reasons.
And a 2.2 would be out the question.

You pays your money you takes your choice. I don't have a problem with MUX, but then again I'm incapable of diagnosing or fixing any problems MUX or not. If you do go MUX then either avoid 51 and maybe 02 because that's when the duff COM2000 units were installed, or budget for it.

If you're going MUX then you may want to look out for ones with satnav. Most people say the satnav itself is crap (although I like it), but the Type C display is much better: it has two trip computers and instantaneous readout.

I think 'Rapier' was a later invention.

Old system is £220 for "over 1549cc", but from 1st March 2001 the 90 is in band F which is £135. I thought that was 51-onwards.

Beautiful though they are, the extra you pay in tax, insurance, and diesel is quite significant. So it depends on how much money you have, how you want to spend it, and just how important it is to you to keep up with the C*s in Audis.
