Remap for Siemens HDi (90)

Can anyone recommend one? What should be the going rate?

I've had remaps from a few places over the years either on a 2.0 HDi 110 or on the 2.2 HDi, kinda depends how you want to go about it defines the option you can take.

1. Drive to a UK tuner or have them come to you and have a matching map installed on your car.

2. Use a Galletto or KWP to read the map from your car, they will send back a matching tuned file for you to upload.

3. Use a Galletto or KWP to read the map from your car, send it to a Pro tuner to have a custom map written and returned for you to upload.

I've done all three options and am currently on option 3, i found that has giving me the tune that has 'felt' and performed best for my car.

I thought the Galletto & KWP stuff didn't work on Siemens ECUs.

Anyway, it's not something I'll be doing myself -- at least not without a grown-up to supervise.

I gave Angel Tuning a call and they said they can do it for £195.

Yes, for the Siemens you have to use BDM to read / write. Not difficult to do if you have the apposite adaptors (thus no soldering required) but it is more expensive to buy and takes more confidence from your side.

I strongly suggest to avoid any kind of tuning company like Celtic Tuning, Superchips and such... 99% of the time they just slap a pre-made map bought in DVDs from ebay, on which only a small part of the data is changed, and badly...

You have better find a small specialized tuning company that lets you customize evey detail with your presence if possible. A good remap takes a whole day at least, if you do not know yet the map positions, and at least half a day if you do.

Well the AA called back to ask what is the current power of the car.
I said "well if you don't know what power it has before the remap then why do you care what power it has after the remap?"
Anyway, I told them and they said "oh yeah, it says HDi 90 here".

So they've now decided that 35 extra hp will cost more than twice as much to insure (109% increase).



And they won't quote for a decat pipe unless I can tell them what the increase in brake horsepower will be.

I think you can quite confidently state it will be zero. You may get a marginal improvement in response, depending on how clogged your cat is, but that'll be about it.

Your comment about off-the-shelf maps being crap reminded me of this article which makes the point that measuring the current curves and aiming to smooth them is just as important as any increase.

Which kind of brings me back to the original question: what's a reasonable price, and can you recommend anyone (in the UK, south central or midlands)?

For a proper, custom made, every-map-is-modified-accordingly remap the price range can be huge. 200-500£ depending on your requests, with 500£ for example including several hardware modifications and big changes in maps (the bigger the changes, the more complicated the calculations one has to implement). Unfortunately I cannot recommend anyone in the UK, sorry. If you want we can make a remap for you based on your original, but you'll need someone to read and write the maps for you if you don't fancy it yourself, but I do not think this is what you are looking for right?

Avoid every "tuners" that you suspect use just "pre-made" maps... people who take not enough time to look at the file either use a pre made map or just change only a small % of the values needed for a smooth remap.

for all the hassle & bother is it worth it my 90bhp is very quick for 90bhp. Or get a 2.2hdi with 136bhp. If you want a quicker or faster car just get a performance petrol car saves all the bother

This is turning out to be a lot more expensive and difficult than I had thought.

I guess I'd better let it stick to what it's good at: being cheap to run.
